GenMatrix reacted to Netduma Fraser in Traffic Prioritization Question
Apply to WAN basically tries to get the ISP to prioritize those packets as well, it may or may not work depending on the ISP but there is no harm enabling it.

I applied the old firmware and then upgraded it again and it seems to have resolved the issue of going nonresponsive.
I still went back to the XR500 because the Pi-Hole is much better system for AdBlock than what's cooked into the R2. I've observed the following:
Over the course of a day's worth of traffic, the R2 with a small block list (https://block.energized.pro/bluGo/formats/hosts.txt this file has 125K domains) blocked 75% of all DNS queries which is substantially more than my Pi-Hole with a much larger list (https://block.energized.pro/ultimate/formats/hosts.txt has 1.1M domains only blocking 12% with ads). I missed getting the exact values from the R2 but the Pi-Hole is sitting at 49,547 / 6,033 for a day. Not sure if there is some loop happening to inflate blocked traffic.. I'm no expert in this area.
R2 can't use block lists that are too large, seems like anything larger than 3MB will freak out the R2.
If I use the R2 with the Pi-Hole it seems to hold on to the DNS queries and once it reaches it's max of 150, it will no longer resolve any DNS calls. I'll see if message in the logs when it happens: Maximum number of concurrent DNS queries reached (max: 150). It will pop up a few more times before allow DNS queries to resolve again. Not sure if there's any ways to fix this that maybe I don't know about but after spending a day researching, I couldn't find any way to change the Pi-Hole or the R2 to resolve. There's a lot of things pointing to OpenWRT settings to resolve but of course those settings are not exposed in DumaOS.

It definitely appears to the be the NIC on my main PC. My ITX does not show anything near those spikes at all. I swapped the cable being used on my Main PC and plugged into the Mini ITX rig and it still did not exhibit the spikes I'm seeing on the Main PC, so the cable has been ruled out.
Glad to see it's not the router but it sucks that it's my board. I have two options at this point, RMA the board or buy a NIC.
Thanks for suffering through this with me @Netduma Fraser and thanks for the logical advice @Killhippie.

Good idea. I will ping via my mini ITX build and report back shortly.

10-4. I switched to my XR500 just now to see if the same behavior is exhibited, loaded up the latest beta of DumaOS 3.0. Mostly out of curiosity, partly out of frustration lol.

Thanks Gen! Great advice above, then any devices connected to the Orbi will appear as though they are directly connected to the R2 and you can adjust settings for them accordingly.

I am running the same set up for my wifi coverage.
What you're going have to do is log into the main Orbi unit (not the satellite). If you don't know it's IP you can try http://orbilogin.com
Log in with credentials, usually admin/admin or admin/password then go to the advanced tab > Advanced Set up > Router / AP mode and set it to AP Mode.

I'm not 100% on that since @ 7AM the East Coast of the US is starting to wake up. Either way, that wouldn't explain why everything clears up consistently for 4 days after each boot of the router. And I've only been doing a software reboot from the OS page, not a power cycle.
No I haven't experienced anything like that on my end. The only thing I have set for DumaOS is Traffic Prioritization for Apex.

    Thanks again @Killhippie.
As a side note, this is a great opportunity to use DumaOS Adblock. Didn't use it before since I had my Pi-Hole going but considering the circumstances, it's time to give it a go. =D

GenMatrix reacted to Netduma Fraser in Network Overview not reflecting in Network Snapshot
You're very welcome! I would assume it was that living room device so if that was downloading that could be the reason. Quick way to tell is to take that device offline and see if it still occurs.

Although this is quite an extreme example, the snap shot is showing an average of how much bandwidth is being used at a time. The overview is showing the download which is happening and downloads often go up and down with how fast they are downloading. What was the device shown doing at the time?

Absolutely love the the R2 and I'm sure this has been suggested before but I'd love to see an option to schedule a reboot.

GenMatrix got a reaction from Boldshoter30 in R2 and XR500
I personally have a NETGEAR Orbi running to saturate my house in WiFi. Both the XR500 and R2 speeds come to a crawl on the other side of my house (2 Story), so I just left my Orbi in place with the main unit hard wired and the satellite on the other side of the house.
One benefit I found of running this set up is that I can easily swap routers and most of my devices will be able to connect back to the AP without much involvement on my end.
All in all, I would recommend getting a mesh setup.

It was the modem, installed a new one (with a broadcom chipset vs awful puma) and boom, everything on ping test looks much more stable. I'll continue to keep an eye on it. I haven't seen the weird behavior on the Network monitor app yet, but I'll open a new thread if I do. Thanks @Bert and @Netduma Fraser
Super Happy with the R2 and looking forward to all the great things to come!
