DrFishy
Just got my R1 yesterday and I haven't had that much time to thoroughly test and enjoy it, so I thought I'd make good use of my time while I'm stuck at work and ask some primer questions:(I know it'll be different for everyone, and what works well for someone might end up working terribly for someone else, but I'll ask anyway) Any Netduma users in Texas? If so, have you found any sweet spot settings that work well for you as far as geofilter/p.a go? How far out did you have to extend your geofilter to start finding matches and stop getting lobby booted? (Referring to COD: Advanced Warfare PS4) I was hoping I'd be able to get some decent matches if Dallas/Houston/San Antonio all were inside the Geofilter range since all 3 of those cities are part of the 10 highest population cities in the U.S, but was getting almost nothing. ( Using .7 update, 70%/70%, Playstation Network PA, Ping Assist set to 0%, Strict) I also tried setting PA to 50ms which helped me find more matches but was getting about half and half good 4 bar connections, and the other half laggy feeling 3 bar connections for some reason. Had to cover most of Central U.S/EastCoast U.S to start finding matches reliably. Anyone who is reading the above, DON'T take it to mean that the Netduma isn't working well, I just have a lot of factors working against me (Crappy UVerse internet: 12Down/1Up (highest speed offered in this area), and I play the game at odd hours compared to most, 6:00 Am-8:00 Am) so the Netduma has it's work cut out for it. Guest Netduma_Iain
Hi DrFishy Great name btw, thanks for purhcasing and welcome to the forum. I think we have a few people from Texas, I'll ask Marvin to post here. Checking out your post I'm almost certain its the time of day you play. If you'd like to experiment set your geo-filter quite low say 1000km and ping assist to 50m. Ignore the location you get put in but let me know the pings you're getting. I suspect you may be connecting to a west coast or far away host but the pings are low. If so its an incorrectly located host at that time of day. DrFishy
Does strict have to be unchecked for ping assist to work? Should I turn it off? At 1000km 50ms it took about 5 minutes and 20 or so lobby boots to put me in a match that only had about 1 minute left before it was over, and as soon as it was over I got booted. A little later It put me in a game, and the largest circle on the map was one of those dotted line ones, ping was around 40ms flat line on that one, but I dont know if that was actually the server I was in because lag was so bad the game was stuttering like it was running at 10-15fps. After that I expanded geofilter to 1500km 50pa, and I get this, the ping graph on the largest circle looked like a mountain range constantly jumping from 45ms at the lowest up to 85ms, was playable but didnt "feel" that great. Guest Netduma_Iain
Can you use the snap button, I'd recommend at least two presses it will probably take you between the 1000-1500km range you specfied. See this for more info on snap http://wiki.netduma.com/doku.php?id=gf_getting_started#how_do_i_use_the_snap_button Remember the aim of the router is to get a low ping, that should get you a very smooth game-play. However some customers have mentioned they don't like some dedi servers if you really don't like it you can just move your home and restart the game & try find one in a different location. ltr7
I've searched all over the western U.S. and the best connections I get are on the eastern states. Over by Chicago there is a dedicated server that I can set my home on and shrink it down as small 200-400mi with 40ms consistent ping during those hours. I am in the north west though, but I see way more traffic out east jmho.

I'm out of town at the moment, will be till at least till this weekend or may have to be out another week, just don't know yet. I wanted to reply so that people think I was ignoring, that stated ... DrFishy, if you go by what Iain stated, you should get smooth game play and not really have issues, even at that time of the day, it may take a little longer to catch a game, but it's so worth the wait for the smooth game play. When I'm back in, I'll list out how I use the R1, it's a little different that the "normal" settings because I usually go in with a full party, spread all across the mid-US to the east coast and found a setting that I use, that work greats not only for me, but the group as a whole. I can state, we avoid the dedi servers (will avoid tin foil hat theories) like the plague. We as a whole group catch better sessions when we do this. At any rate, just stopped in for a quick read, I will post later what I do for our group. Take care. Marvin

RabX2
I'm in DFW. Im not sure on a sweet spot, but I do know there is a couple dudes across the street with 150 plus ping. Overtime my experience got better. I sure wish I could prevent dedis. They are getting thru even with strict on. I ping around 25 to dedis. If it weren't for dedis all my match's would be below 20 ping. Nowadays, I don't use the Geo filter. I put it over the Bermuda triangle and forget about it. If its not prime hours of the day I may use it. You shouldn't be getting long waiting periods where we are. There is a lot of activity in the corpus area but hardly ever connect to them. Guest Netduma Fraser
Have you tried using PA to help mitigate lag? Have you also tried moving the home to avoid the host ?
Ca11mecowboy
DrFishy, I'm in Austin and I have Uverse. The gateway that AT&T provides is pretty crummy. And by crummy, I mean the least user friendly, pain in the ass to change a setting, hunk of junk I've had to deal with in a long time... I've had my netduma for about two weeks now. Hopefully you've got the netduma in the DMZ. It's called IP passthrough on my gatewaway. I notice a huge difference when my NAT is open. (As a side note, when I select Xboxlive PA I need to select advanced and make sure TCP and UDP are both selected in order to make sure I get open NAT on both the console and the game. I have no idea why, but it works.) I mentioned in a post last night that I found that the biggest difference maker has been my internal congestion controls. I was experiencing extreme jitter, espcially to the dedis and the gameplay was as bad as it was pre-netduma. I've pretty sure I've got it figured out. I'm at 70%/70%. Changing my anti-floood to preemptive made a huge difference, not only in ping but also in which games I was put into. I get a lot more local hosts (10-20ms pings, which is a blast) but I still land in the dedis from time to time and the jitter has gone way down after making that change. My home is set to Austin and I've got the Geo set to 600 miles (strict enabled). I've got ping assist set to 32 and that's given me the best results. I find matches quickly and they're usually of good quality. I still get weird games every now and then, even when ping is low/stable. I think that may have something to do with the game's netcode and/or gametype. I'm still playing with the settings...if I find something that works even better I'll definitely post it here. RabX2
Yeah, they are outside of the filter. I get the Seattle one a lot. Then again, you guys say dedi,s don't show s big circle, right? Its big in Seattle and sometimes Illinois area. I say dedi, because it doesn't have the update button.
Guest Netduma_Iain
Hi Rab, do they have dotted outlines? If so they are ping assisted hosts which means they are low ping and you can safely ignore their location for now
RabX2
Doesnt matter if ping assist is set to zero or 25. They get thru. Its not too terrible playing on seatle but there are better ones. The game oddly enough favors that one. It definatly feels different.
