Hi all,

Purchased XR500 many years ago but never got time to really look into setting it up,  Come to this forum for some advice if possible please :)

So firstly, I did follow the steps to update the firmware to the beta version, So this is where Im confused lol,

image.png.0257e4fba4a30d053175d0395c32ff0e.png

I installed that INTERMEDIARY firmware first.

then I tried this but had firmware was incorrect image.png.e09d700a696ad7c3a8f08f4e3b84eaeb.png

So i then upgraded to this version and then reverted to the above 2.3.2.134 RC14

So I did all that, But noticed my firmware say this

image.png.bea9a6fcb558b12d5504ed4b7dd52b6c.png

Is this correct firmware?/Should I do something different?

Now onto my questions :)

Firstly,  I'm from the UK

1.This is my current setup - VODAFONE Hub (Router)  I only have DSL ( So speeds suck)       So I have My vodafone router on,  and my XR500 router on.   Ethernet in yellow port on Vodafone and the other end in the WAN port on XR500  ( I believe this is correct)?

2.  VODAFONE ROUTER -   VODAFONE doesnt have a bridge option So best option I could do is have disabled WIFI,   Enabled DHCP and its 192.168.1.1    -  Made a static IP for my XR500 as 192.168.1.3  - Enabled DMZ and put in 192.168.1.3 , IPV6 is enabled and UPNP is disabled.

3.  XR500  WAN IP IS 192.168.1.3  ,  LAN IP IS 10.0.0.1   DHCP is enabled  starting 10.0.0.2   -  Any devices that I connect are only connected too XR500 - THE IP on those devices are 10.0.0.X (X being a number)  and Default gateway 10.0.0.X.   UPNP is enabled

So from that list above, Im not sure if its all correct. Internet works fine etc.   But if theres something wrong or I am missing, Could someone please point it out for me :) -

So now I want to go into what I want to use this router for

2 things mainly.

1.  Restricting Bandwith to devices other than my 2 PS5'S ( My internet speed isnt the best, My upload is not great and download isnt either, So I want to reduce as much lag as possible    Attached photo below

image.thumb.png.5cba37a346bbf3715e17c9200a3eea8d.pngimage.thumb.png.5cba37a346bbf3715e17c9200a3eea8d.png

I've then Prioritised the 2 PS5 consoles

image.png.ea1cfd9da65ede03b0a3db069a4739fd.png

Can anyone confirm if I have done this correctly? Or something needing to be changed?

And I also want to use the router for FORTNITE and blocking bad servers and connecting to close ones (Being from UK)

Uploaded photos below

image.thumb.png.d16c654d1520a60513bf509a391800f4.png

I have then gone onto Geo filter and clicked ' Add device'  Choose my Device '  Recommended for my game - Selected fornite and clicked enable filter mode ( Not sure what that does if someone could explain the filter part?)

I also have these options not sure if any are meant to be unticked

image.png.a86f6f2c78243c1da3eb4d67ba820f24.png

And selected the UK

And that's it... That's all I know really,  I really am thankful for anyone who can read this and help me with my 2 main points on

1. Is the router setup correct/ And Bandwith Correct.

2.Am I using GEO Filter correct for fortnite

I would like to add,  I am looking into getting a new router soon to replace the vodafone so it can be in modem mode only but for now my only option is through DMZ  - I'm just not sure if I have set it up correctly in terms of having both routers DHCP turned on and  vodafone uses 192.168.1.1 and XR500 using 10.0.0.0

Thanks in advance all -

(One last thing)

If there's anything else I should have ticked/unticked in the advanced settings please let me know

:)

It's likely that the router upgraded itself to the latest public version - you can disable auto update on the firmware update page so you'll need to go back to the beta firmware to be on the latest DumaOS version. The physical setup is good, you've done that correctly. The QoS setup looks fine but I'd suggest using Bandwidth Allocation in the device mode instead. I don't know just from the Congestion Control percentages if that's good for your connection or not, it's something you'll need to monitor and tinker with yourself.

For consoles don't pick the specific game on the Geo-Filter, just select manual and it should add with the Games Console service. Fortnite is a weird one as it only tries to connect you to a server when it's actually loading you in to the pre-game run around lobby area & so that's the only time the router can block it which may result in a longer wait to get returned to the game search lobby. It may be faster to toggle filtering mode off, search, wait to see where it shows on the map/what it pings & then quit if needed and re-search until you get the server you want.

The DMZ is fine, you don't need to get a new router specifically to have a modem mode option.

Thanks for your reply.  I have now updated firmware etc.

I have also changed to device mode instead -

Before this method of using DMZ, I just  connected to the playstation via ethernet to the XR500 and with the XR500 ethernet from wan into vodafone router ethernet port and the internet still worked etc.. with DMZ disabled

What I am finding since using DMZ is that my ping is going crazy...  I'll be sitting at 25 ping then all of a sudden 55, then sometimes it jumps to 100  - Back down to 30 and then 25 and it repeats.  This is even when It's only me using the internet and other devices are off -  Is there any reason why this could be happening?

Do I have to use DMZ? or could I just use original method?  I just want the XR500 to be my main router to give my playstations more of the internet usage

-- EDIT,

I've now turned off DMZ  and all setup is the same just DMZ is off and now my ping is between 15-35 never higher....

So my question does DMZ have to be enabled? What will I lose if It's not.

My main goal is to use the bandwith controller -  (Again all devices are connected too XR500 anyway and assigned XR'S IP addresses not vodafones LAN IP's )
