ExcellentZERO Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Hey Frazer and team I have an issue. My smartboost is not working properly and is not allowing me to make changes. I my ping is very high when its not supposed to be isp has no issues please help
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 7 Administrators Posted September 7 Not working properly in what sense? How is it not allowing you to make changes exactly? What is your ping and where are you measuring it, Geo-Filter, Speedtest, in game etc? How have you setup Congestion Control (Ping Optimizer > Advanced)?
ExcellentZERO Posted September 7 Author Posted September 7 Hey frazer yes congestion control --> 75% both my ping is 68-70 valorant in game. when its supposed to be 35-38 When I try prioritizing Valorant or gaming the option moves back to lower prioritization from when I set it new priorities or delete them. they disappear but reappear afterwords. and nothing get prioritized.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 7 Administrators Posted September 7 What is the model of the modem/router the R3 is connected to and how have you set that to ensure all traffic flows to the R3? E.g R3 in its DMZ, modem/bridge mode Are ALL devices connected to the R3? What are the speeds you pay for/receive? Have you entered those speeds into the router? Is Congestion Control set to Always? What platform are you playing on and how is it connected, via ethernet or WiFi? What do you mean it moves back to lower prioritization? Can you provide a video of what is happening?
ExcellentZERO Posted September 8 Author Posted September 8 •R3 model no it's the main router it's not a bridge or anything, no dmz is not off. PPPoE is properly set up, no dns or such required. •all devices to only 2 was connected while troubleshooting. •50Mb/s down 25 MB/s up •yes •yes congestion control is set to always •xbox, via ethernet.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 8 Administrators Posted September 8 The router model the R3 is connected to. Okay so the R3 is handling PPPoE? What do you mean it moves back to lower prioritization? Can you provide a video of what is happening?
ExcellentZERO Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 Yes the R3 is handling PPPoE I mean if I Drag Valorant to low priority on the list under smartBoost, in order to have gaming at the top priority list it does move, but resets.
ExcellentZERO Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 Also now I am having an issue where my ping and packet loss is reaching for the skies and isp and game servers are up 20250910_154833.mp4
ExcellentZERO Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 Here are my logs I have had this issue since 2 hours ago R3_2025-09-10T13_53_14.255Z_logs.txt
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 10 Administrators Posted September 10 What web browser/device are you using to access/change settings on the interface? Are you using the Geo-Filter? The logs won't show lag or anything like that
ExcellentZERO Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 Using the DUMA OS app. my phone, the only phone in the house to monitor reset router, also did a massive resent on the router
ExcellentZERO Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 Just now, ExcellentZERO said: Using the DUMA OS app. my phone, the only phone in the house to monitor reset router, also did a massive resent on the router I did not Factory reset but just reboot it
ExcellentZERO Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 All the packet issues are resolved but now, I am still not having the low ping I usually play with (38-40)
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 10 Administrators Posted September 10 Try it with a PC web browser instead to adjust it. How have you determined that the ping should be 38-40?
ExcellentZERO Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 I have been playing with 38-40 ping for 5 months even earlier today before the mishap, something just happens with the router. now I'm playing on 60 70 ping with a little packet loss
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 10 Administrators Posted September 10 When the ping gets worse are there more people on your network, is it during peak/non peak times, are you still connected to the same game server? etc
ExcellentZERO Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 Ping never got worse, even during peak/non peak times, not many devices use the internet even now it's just the tv and my xbox. also yes I am still connected to the same game server.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 10 Administrators Posted September 10 I mean now that it's happening though can you determine any patterns e.g. peak/non peak, a specific device on the internet etc
ExcellentZERO Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 no nothinng I monitored devices and connections and disconnected any device that have an influence-----> except my xbox and tv ofc
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 10 Administrators Posted September 10 So earlier today lower ping then completely out of nowhere the ping just rises and stays there with no settings changes, physical changes or any other outside influence? If so that really doesn't make any sense, can you provide a screenshot of your Congestion Control Settings & SmartBOOST? What changes have you made to the router from its defaults?
ExcellentZERO Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 I didn't make any major changes ---> the changes I made during the 2:00pm --> 3:50pm was to test if things would be better as in --> 1:20pm the ping started to rise around that time, which is when most people are at school work still. the attached is my normal settings in general where I get my -> 38-41 ping range. I don't even understand either that drop happened so sudden where I sent the clip with it the rising packet loss. I contacted isp immediately and they confirmed no issues in my area.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 10 Administrators Posted September 10 Add Gaming as an activity and also add the gaming device itself as well. If it continues it may be worth having your ISP router handle PPPoE instead to see if it works better with the R3 using DHCP
ExcellentZERO Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 I did option 1 Already, the xbox is also is added to the list, sorry I forgot to send that screen shot. that did not work. Option 2 I tried doing it R3 made it very unstable and laggy why I made the R3 handle PPPOE. More or less I think this is just a bug in the firmware. the last time that fixed this issue was when the router disconnected from the internet itself and then I had to reboot it manually so it connects again.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 10 Administrators Posted September 10 What do you mean unstable & laggy exactly? You would need to put the R3 in the DMZ of the ISP router to ensure all traffic flows through smoothly. Does it generally provide you with a lower ping after a reboot?
ExcellentZERO Posted September 11 Author Posted September 11 Unstable --> disconnected frequently from games, or booted xbox offline ---> laggy ---> alot of packetloss rubber banding shots not registering. yes after a reboot my ping usually becomes low. currently I am having a low ping using the R3, but I fear it will only be for this moment only 20250911_075426.mp4
