N.J Posted Thursday at 08:56 AM Posted Thursday at 08:56 AM Hello, Hello, I recently purchased the Netduma router about two weeks ago and received it the day before yesterday. It is connected to my PlayStation 5. I am experiencing a few issues that I would appreciate your assistance with: When running internet speed tests, I consistently get results between 300 and 500 Mbps, while my actual internet plan is 1 Gbps. With my previous Asus router, I regularly achieved around 900 Mbps. With the Netduma router, I am barely reaching 500 Mbps. Could you please advise why this might be happening? In certain games, such as Fortnite, I notice a difference between the Ping Heatmap and the Geo-Filter. In the Ping Heatmap, I can see many servers available. However, when I switch to the Geo-Filter, I only see a single server. Even when there are servers with better quality, the system does not allow me to connect to them — it appears to be for display purposes only. Could you clarify why this occurs and how to resolve it? Is there any way to select a specific game directly via the Geo-Filter instead of through the Ping Heatmap? If there is a game I want to play that is not listed in the game list, how can I manually configure its servers in the Geo-Filter? Thank you for your time and support, and I look forward to your guidance.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted Thursday at 02:39 PM Administrators Posted Thursday at 02:39 PM Don't rely on the in-built router speedtest. For a variety of reasons this can report incorrectly. Do a speedtest.net test with a wired PC if possible, what do you get? Ping Heatmap pings all servers the game has, that's its only purpose. The Geo-Filter shows you active connections and therefore you will only see the server you're connected to at the time. Fortnite is a weird one as it only tries to connect you to a server when it's actually loading you in to the pre-game run around lobby area & so that's the only time the router can block it which may result in a longer wait to get returned to the game search lobby. It may be faster to toggle filtering mode off, search, wait to see where it shows on the map/what it pings & then quit if needed and re-search until you get the server you want. Yes when you add your device to the Geo-Filter you select the game I would suggest overall that when using a PC, delete it from the Geo-Filter, go to the Device Manager, click your PC and change the device type to a PlayStation. Go back to the Geo-Filter and re-add the PC, it should add as a console instead. This will mean you can filter different games without switching it all the time. It will allow you to filter games not listed (if those games can be filterable) and is overall more likely to work consistently in my opinion.
N.J Posted Thursday at 06:47 PM Author Posted Thursday at 06:47 PM 1 - I did a wired test through the computer and got the same result, 300 Mbps. I heard that QoS might be affecting the speed, so I tried to find it in the settings to disable it and check if it really makes a difference, but I couldn’t find it. 2 - I play a lot of EFOOTBALL, and there are two servers near me, about a 30-minute drive away. In the Ping Heatmap, I can always see them, but when I go to the Geo-Filter, sometimes I see them and sometimes I don’t. It connects me to a distant location instead, and I can’t choose them. Why? ?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted Thursday at 07:28 PM Administrators Posted Thursday at 07:28 PM The QoS you're looking for is in Ping Optimizer > Advanced The Geo-Filter shows you active connections and therefore you will only see the server you're connected to at the time - you will not see servers like how Ping Heatmap shows you. Disable Geo-Latency in the Geo-Filter settings and that should stop you connecting further away.
N.J Posted Thursday at 07:35 PM Author Posted Thursday at 07:35 PM After you told me to go to Ping Optimizer > Advanced, what exactly do I need to turn off there because I don't see anything that says Qos?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted Thursday at 07:48 PM Administrators Posted Thursday at 07:48 PM Congestion Control, turn both percentages sliders to 100%
N.J Posted Friday at 08:42 AM Author Posted Friday at 08:42 AM I performed the speed test using a computer connected to the router via cable, and I barely got 300 Mbps. I tested on several speed test websites, and all the results were the same. I also changed the Congestion Control settings, turning both percentage sliders to 100%, but it didn’t help. There’s something in the router that is limiting the internet speed — what could it be?
N.J Posted Friday at 12:21 PM Author Posted Friday at 12:21 PM To make sure the issue was with the Netduma settings, today I disconnected it and reconnected the Asus router instead. I ran a speed test via the Speedtest website using a wired connection, and also through the router’s app. Picture 1 is from the website, and Picture 2 is from the app — you can see the internet speed I got. After that, I reconnected the Netduma and ran another test via the Speedtest website using a wired connection to the computer, and also through the app. Picture 3 is from the website, and Picture 4 is from the app — you can see the results I got.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted Friday at 02:34 PM Administrators Posted Friday at 02:34 PM What is the model of the modem/router the R3 is connected to and how have you set that to ensure all traffic flows to the R3? E.g R3 in its DMZ, modem/bridge mode Are ALL devices connected to the R3? In some cases it can take time for new routers to achieve full speeds with some ISPs. If that is the case then if you copy the MAC address of your previous Asus router and set the R3 to use that MAC address instead. Give it a reboot, wait 4 minutes then it could restore your speeds.
N.J Posted Friday at 04:38 PM Author Posted Friday at 04:38 PM The R3 is connected to a TP-Link optical media converter for converting between 1000BASE-SX/LX fiber connections and 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet, and also to a TP-Link Mini GBIC module TL-SM311LM V3, because it does not have a fiber optic input. I configured it via PPPoE. I didn’t set up anything in the DMZ; I only forwarded some ports for Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 5. Of course, all devices in the house are connected to it. The R3’s setup is the same as my previous Asus router — everything that was connected to the Asus is now connected to the R3. If the Asus delivered full speed, the R3 should be able to deliver it as well.

The ISP/MAC thing I mentioned is a legitimate thing and can result in reduced speeds over a few days/weeks, it wouldn't be an R3 specific issue. However, in this circumstance it's actually due to PPPoE, I've given you Early Access: https://forum.netduma.com/forum/151-netduma-r3-early-access so you can upgrade to the firmware there which may help to improve the speeds in the meantime while we look to improve the speeds ourselves through firmware related changes. Otherwise the solution would be to have another router handle PPPoE instead of the R3 in the meantime.
N.J Posted Friday at 05:05 PM Author Posted Friday at 05:05 PM Ok, I'll download what you sent and install it. I hope it helps and I'll keep you updated... Thanks.🙏
N.J Posted Friday at 05:18 PM Author Posted Friday at 05:18 PM I have another question that I still don't understand... In the GEO-Filter, can I choose which server to connect to or not? Because in the game Efootball, as you can see in the pictures, there are two servers near my home that are marked in red. When I click on them, it shows me their data and that everything is good, but when the game starts, they disappear from the map and suddenly connect to a server in Europe that is far from me. Why? I still haven't been able to connect to the servers I set; it connects according to what it wants...

For example, you cover an area, it'll connect to a server within that area to then connect you to a game server outside that location. Apparently covering Japan as well can make it so it adheres more to your radius. However, it actually appears as though you don't have filtering mode enabled on your Geo-Filter or you've enabled it after loading up the game as everything appears to be connectable. Make sure you have it enabled, have it all set before you launch the client/game, disable Geo-Latency in Geo-Filter settings also, cover Japan as well as the area you want and see if it improves.

N.J Posted 12 hours ago Author Posted 12 hours ago reconnecting the Asus and set it up as PPPoE while the Netduma is on DHCP, and now I’m getting around 900 Mbps or sometimes even more. Of course, all the devices in my home are connected through the Netduma, but I don’t like the fact that there’s more than one router managing things. I would much prefer having just one router controlling everything. I really hope you’ll fix this speed issue soon so that the Netduma can work independently without needing to be connected to another router.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted 10 hours ago Administrators Posted 10 hours ago Glad to hear that's restored the speeds, we'll certainly do what we can to improve the speeds through PPPoE N.J 1
