A potentially silly question

Recommended Posts

Firstly, I know the purpose of the router isn't to mess with any matchmaking algorithm so if this discussion isn't allowed then apologies Fraser!

Obviously we know duma has the ability to block individual servers, which I'm having to do due to the plethora of mislocated ones.

But it has got me thinking, does the game have servers allocated to specific skill buckets? Like will certains servers always contain a ≥X MMR and others for the opposite.

Has anyone experimented with blocking certain servers on duma and what have you found?

I consistently see the same players over and over again in my lobbies, especially the crimson and iridescent players and would be curious if this done anything.

Absolutely fine to discuss! Just to throw my 2cents in, I very much doubt if they have allocated servers that never change and solely serve a certain skill bracket. I suspect it's just because those people are in the same bracket that you see them frequently

I did think as much but thought there was an off chance that to speed up matchmaking they were assigned buckets, rather than the first player to join a server deciding the MMR of that server. If that makes sense.

I can't say I'm noticing too many recurring servers but I've not properly looked either.

Yeah totally makes sense and the logic is sound. I suspect as with most things money dictates and having servers being underutilized like that wouldn't make financial sense. There will be lots of servers clustered in the same location, if you have a look at the ID that will change between servers so you can start to notice it that way.

They will be pretty aware of how many are required in each region for each bucket though, no? Would likely have the same number of "dead servers" regardless.

Yeah as I say, due to that mislocated cluster in Oklahoma, I've been paying a bit more attention.

I might play about with this soon and see what it's like.

True, I imagine the easier thing to work with is avg game population needs X servers rather than also calculating avg skill bracket population + avg skill bracket population active at one time needs X servers. Given the frequency you're running into the same players there can't be a big enough population in your bracket. They could well do to ensure top connection quality that but I've never heard of it.

If you send us the IDs of the incorrect locations we can get them corrected.

Yeah, I have no real technical knowledge on it so will defer to your expertise!

There's so many that it would take me ages mate. Easier for me to just avoid that region with my filter.

Just an educated guess really, it's likely we'll never truly know! No worries, we are aware there are a lot of mislocated servers there so we are in the process of correcting them
