talbyfish
Can I heck sort my bufferbloat out, getting a grade D. I have halted my speeds down to 400 from 800down and 50 from 100 up. any ideas
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted May 24 Administrators Share Posted May 24 Rather than focusing on a letter grading I'd suggest following this guide https://support.netduma.com/frequently-asked-questions/legacyfaqs/test-your-ping/ while downloading & start with 95% for Congestion Control (set to Always), check results, decrease by 10%, check, decrease by 10% etc, until you get to a value that is pretty good & then try 5% either side of that value to see if it can be improved. Download & Upload on Congestion Control don't have to be the same value & you may have a better experience with differing values. This will be better as it's a real world test and you'll be able to see how your changes effect it in real time and adjust from there.
talbyfish
Av tried all sorts mate, had an r1 and used to love how you could give each device there own internet and not share, gutted when I can’t find it on latest r3. this is whats happening, am playing fc25 pinging 12ms to the server, in game ping is 12-15 but when she’s watching Netflix it’s jumping up to 60-70ms. It’s only downloading Netflix at 2.5 or 25 Mbps can’t remember what it said but ave got nearly 600Mbps spare not getting used and it’s still lagging. I could ply on virgin media router and it wouldn’t lag when she was watching. any ideas? Ping optimiser is telling to to up my download cap so av set it higher
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted May 25 Administrators Share Posted May 25 That's what Congestion Control should be eliminating, set the speeds you actually get into the router, otherwise Congestion Control will be working off false information. Then adjust Congestion Control to find what's best, if you follow the guide while doing that then there will be no way Netflix will affect you when playing as you've already used similar traffic to get the best results. On top of that you can then use SmartBOOST to prioritize the game/device of course. If needed you can also reserve bandwidth for the gaming device so it always has enough. On ping plotter av had to drop me speed from 800 down to 260 down, the upload from 110 to 56. lost a lot of download speed is this normal, back in the r1 days it was always the upload that caused lag but mine is all happening on downloads at the minute

Downloads more commonly cause lag compared to uploads
talbyfish Posted yesterday at 12:02 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 12:02 AM OK av been messing bout and can’t get it to work proper, my son is on pc, gaming and chatting using about 3mbps up and down max. Have you setup Congestion Control? As that is the main feature to prevent devices causing each other to lag
talbyfish Posted yesterday at 03:14 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 03:14 PM Yea, I have found auto doesn’t work so I have had to drop my speeds to 10% download and 50% upload to stop games lagging if someone watches a video or downloads anything. Even if the video is only downloading at 25mbps I have over 800 spare but still lags. Am currently using only 80mbps download with always on ticked. talbyfish Posted yesterday at 03:17 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 03:17 PM Also reserving 20% down and up makes no difference to lag when someone watches a video
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted yesterday at 03:52 PM Administrators Share Posted yesterday at 03:52 PM Are ALL devices connected to the router or do you still have some connected to the hub? Can you provide a screenshot of all the settings you've changed specifically?

Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted yesterday at 04:55 PM Administrators Share Posted yesterday at 04:55 PM Switch SmartBOOST back to the basic, not advanced. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted yesterday at 06:03 PM Administrators Share Posted yesterday at 06:03 PM Disable the DMZ and take off those reservations then try again. The percentages you got with Congestion Control, that was really the best you found when following the PingPlotter instructions?
talbyfish Posted yesterday at 06:19 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 06:19 PM yes al try ping plotter again now, here are some screen shots i took but might be pointless becouse i have changed the things you said.

Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted yesterday at 06:57 PM Administrators Share Posted yesterday at 06:57 PM Having the Xbox in the DMZ while you do those tests is going to skew the results so take that out, you should remove that anyway, then proceed with below.
