Low buffer bloat download latency but high upload latency

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I hope someone can help as this is driving me crazy. I have got a Telstra smart modem 3 on 250/25 mbs plan

modem firmware

21.4.0500

DomaOS version

3.3.688

My modem test gets great under load upload and download ping tests but when i do a buffer bloat test from mc pc the download is good but upload is bad over 100. I tried a direct connection to my nbn modem and i dont get the high upload and get a A+ score but thru the modem not matter what i do to internet optimiser it stays above 100ms. I have played with upload and downlaod sliders from 70% up and down. Set my computer to a computer a playstation a game console. Added pc to priority traffic with all ports and set to default. On the odd occasion i think i get it and i get a A with very low upload latency but then i run the buffer test again and boom back to 100+ms. Again remove modem go direct to nbn modem and low upload latency ping. Not sure why the modem can test under 25ms down and up or its benchmark test but my pc cant get good upload ping.

I'd suggest following this guide https://support.netduma.com/en/support/solutions/articles/16000074717-how-to-test-your-internet-ping while downloading/streaming etc and start with a high value for Congestion Control (set to Always), say 95% then check, decrease by 10%, check, decrease by 10% etc, until you get to a value that is pretty good and then try 5% either side of that value to see if it can be improved. It's important to note that Download & Upload on Congestion Control don't have to be the same value and that you may have a better experience with differing values. This will be a more real world test.

Yes have tried this and download can be great 4ms latency but upload stays at 100+. I start from 100% and have tested every 5% under it and it does not budge. Can this be a NBN issue
