R3 speed issues

I just swapped my XR1000 for the R3 Router and the speed has dropped from the Almost 750-800mbps on Wifi to 350mbps. Attached is the latest screenshot from bufferbloat. The router went through an upgrade to the latest firmware when i was first setting it up. Additionally, connection is based in PPoE and internet plan is a1GB Fibre plan.

Any suggestions on getting this fixed ?

It's likely due to PPPoE, what speeds are you getting over ethernet? 

Also try these suggestions:

• Disable Mirror Mode, give 2.4/5GHz different names and apply - you'll want to connect to 5GHz specifically for speeds
• Use a WiFi analyzer to find the least congested channel and change to that
• Experiment with the widths to see what gives better results
• Ensure it's in an elevated position - not on a metal surface
• Ensure there aren't any electrical / wireless devices e.g headphones etc within close proximity ~3 feet if possible
• Set the antennae to this position _ | | _

Thanks. I have the 2.4/5GHz split with different names and everything. 
 

Ethernet test on the router is around 450/460mbps but on the XR1000 is was 950/980mbps.

It's definitely due to PPPoE, if you can have another router/your ISP router handle PPPoE instead your speeds will increase. If possible we will improve the speeds with PPPoE.

Okay so what is the best way to fix this ? What’s your setup suggestion and key steps?

Have your ISP modem/router or another router handle PPPoE instead of the R3 then remove PPPoE from R3/switch it to DHCP then that will raise your speeds through the R3

I don’t have a ISP modem / router. I used a Linksys AC3200 and the X1000 to the handle the PPPoE and then connect the R3 to that. The latency spiked and speeds dropped to sub 200mbs on WiFi. On the Speedtest on R3, speeds were in the 800/900 range. Suggestions?

Also since using the R3, latency on certain application e.g. Citrix Workspace has increased. How to fix this?

You don't need to use three routers, just the Linksys or the XR1000 to handle PPPoE, then put the R3 WAN IP in the DMZ of that device, reserve the WAN IP of the R3 on that device. Reboot the main router, wait 2 minutes, reboot the R3, wait 4 minutes then check again.

There won't be a double NAT issue if the R3 is put in the DMZ of the router handling PPPoE.

If you do what I mentioned there will be no double NAT. Also the internet will work about the same, there is no real performance benefit of PPPoE over DHCP or negative having another router handle PPPoE in addition to another router. The difference is minimal, perhaps 1ms which would make no difference to gameplay or internet quality.
