Would I be able to add the router while still keeping the router modem combo from ISP working as usual and use the router to form a 2nd connection just for a couple devices while the rest of the devices stay connected to the regular network?

Yes you can absolutely do that if you wish to. Just keep in mind the QoS/SmartBOOST will not be as effective as it cannot control your entire network properly.
