GazzaK
I'm starting to think either I'm missing something or this router has a mind of its own. First, the speed test built into the router doesn't work at all. I have a 1 Gbps connection, but it consistently reports around 300 Mbps for download and 600 Mbps for upload. I input my actual speeds manually, which come out to about 910 Mbps for download and 930 Mbps for upload. I set both speeds at 70% on the congestion control slider. When I run another speed test to check if it worked, it reports my download speed as around 220 Mbps, which is not 70% of 910 Mbps. I thought maybe a router reboot would resolve the issue, but that only resulted in even more confusing information. For instance, right now, I'm testing by setting the speeds to 900 Mbps for both download and upload, with the download slider at 100% and the upload slider at 65%. Yet, a speed test shows my download speed at 266 Mbps, which is completely inaccurate, while the upload is reported as 545 Mbps, closer to what I'd expect. Despite locking my speeds quite low, the congestion control seems ineffective. Even when I turn smart boost off completely, it doesn't return my speeds to normal. Restarting the router does nothing to improve the situation. I'm currently on the v4.0.402 firmware, but it's no different on the v4.0.290 firmware. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted November 4 Administrators Share Posted November 4 The built in speed test can provide different results based on your proximity to the servers it is using. The speeds being low there isn't necessarily an indication that your speeds are being limited. Enter your speeds in manually then do speedtest.net. They should be close to what you expect. It's likely you have Speed test bypass enabled in Ping Optimizer > Advanced which will bypass your Congestion Control settings and show you full speeds.
