SevenDeviations
I was wondering how big of a deal Double NAT is when it comes to games like COD. Right now I have my R2 connected to my other router, not in DMZ , so I have double NAT. I don't have access to the first router's settings, as they are managed by the house owner. My bufferbloat is consistently in the A to A+ range when I have the double NAT R2 plugged in, as opposed to when I plug directly into my ISP router my bufferbloat is a D score. My question is does double NAT really introduce any hidden network latency that would effect things like hit detection etc.? On my R2 I have my QOS capped at 10mbps and 10mbps down and generally have the best results with that.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted November 1 Administrators Share Posted November 1 No it doesn't really, NAT is important as it determines who you're able to connect to but given most games are using servers now it's not that much of a problem. Even in private chats/parties I think they route you through a server now as well but in some cases that might be where you notice it most prominently.
