nottywells
Hello all Recently upgraded from the XR1000 to the R3, JUST updated to v4.0.236. For some reason I keep encountering issues with the R3 throttling my network when attempting to play a game (CoD for example) so badly that if I have a twitch stream active it severely buffers and I encounter a ton of network hitching in game (whether or not I have network activity aside gaming) regardless of open-NAT/low latency/1gb. Currently my PC is set to DMZ with an assigned IP address, Port Scan/Flood protection disabled, Cloudflare DNS, SmartBoost disabled, Steady Ping disabled, no geo-filter active. I have factory reset the R3 quite a few times and that has yet to fix it. I did not have these issues with the XR1000 and only upgraded because of hardware failures with the XR1000. I've attempted running my game without DMZ, default DNS/Google DNS, with and without Ping Optimizer, SmartBoost fully functioning, Steady Ping on and I still encounter this issue. This has been ongoing since setting the R3 up and it's gotten rather frustrating as I'm about to go to Best Buy tomorrow and purchase an entirely separate router. Anyone else experience similar issues and find a solution that I can't or do I somehow have a bad unit/am missing something? If I would have known these were issues (great experience with the XR1000) I would have saved myself the headache and bought another XR1000 or an entirely different router. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 29 Administrators Share Posted September 29 Do NOT DMZ your PC, that is a major security risk, it's open to the internet, I would highly recommend you remove that immediately. By Twitch stream do you mean you're streaming your own gameplay or watching a twitch stream? Is it on the same device you're playing on? Have you set the correct speeds in the router? How do you have Congestion Control set? What is the model of the modem/router the R3 is connected to and how have you set that to ensure all traffic flows to the R3? E.g. R3 in its DMZ, modem/bridge mode

R3 in its DMZ, modem/bridge mode I'm aware of the risks with DMZ and have no concerns. Watching streams but I believe I've fixed the issue partially by disabling IPV6. Everything is configured accordingly and I've disabled congestion control entirely. All traffic flows to the R3 I've verified that - all configurations on the network are exactly the same as what I had on the XR1000.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 29 Administrators Share Posted September 29 Disabling Congestion Control would be the opposite of what I'd advise but if you've found something that works for you that's great!
