Gkear
Hi, Ive just switched isp from sky to bt both fttp, I have the xr1000 connected directly to the ont but Ive noticed that congestion control doesnt work now, it was fine when connected to the sky hub then ont. Also wondering if I even need traffic prio on now that I have 900mb download speed?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 6 Administrators Share Posted August 6 PPPoE is the cause of that issue, we're aware of it and it should be fixed for the upcoming 3.3 beta, in the meantime you'd need to have the hub handle PPPoE for now. Yes I'd still recommend utilizing traffic prio.
Gkear
Hi thanks for the response, any idea when it will be released? I wasnt wanting to use th bt hub was thinking for optimal performance that the xr1000 straight to ont would be much better for competive gaming? Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 6 Administrators Share Posted August 6 We don't give out any ETAs and it's entirely in NGs hands at the moment. The difference is negligible, you wouldn't notice a difference.
Gkear
What would be the best way to set up with the bt hub to ont then the xr100 wired to the bt hub, delete pppoe in xr1000 is there anything else id nd 2 change for it to connect?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 6 Administrators Share Posted August 6 The only other thing I would suggest doing is set a static/reserved IP for the XR on the hub, then put that XR IP into the DMZ on the hub to ensure you get an open NAT. Then connect all devices to the XR - you could disable WiFi on the hub if there is a concern devices may auto connect to the hub.
Gkear
Is it safe putting the xr1000 in dmz? Or is there anoher way?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 6 Administrators Share Posted August 6 Yes it is safe as the XR has its own firewall. You could port forward all ports to the XR but it'd be basically the same - you could try port forwarding the specific ports needed but it's more hassle and not needed. Gkear
Thanks thats it setup only thing i've noticed is it sayed conflicting interest and changed my ips on xr to 10.x.x.x is ther a way I can change back to 192.x.x.x?
Gkear
Now noticed qos is still not working tried lowering the to 70% but still getting full speeds
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 6 Administrators Share Posted August 6 It's done that because your hub is at 192.168.1.1, you can change that one then change the XR back or change the XR to 192.168.2.1 for example. Is it set to Always?
Gkear
Hi so now I have cc workin its made my connection worse for some weird reason below is when I removed the xr100 and just used the bt smart hub, then no matter what I set the sliders best I can get is a C even when I fully disable QOS makes no differance though ive noticed the download speed in the bufferbloat is much lower with the xr1000 in dmz with qos fully disabled smart hub without direct to ont this is with xr in dmz qos fully disabled this with qos on duma settings
Gkear
This is with ping plotter nothing running notice the high packet loss at first hop, is that my ont?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 8 Administrators Share Posted August 8 Are ALL devices connected to the XR? I can't see what mode you have set for Congestion Control but make sure it is always. I'd suggest testing with downloads while following: https://bit.ly/bufferbloat-test start with a high value e.g 95%, test, decrease 10%, test, decrease 10% etc, until you get to a value that is pretty good, then try 5% either side of that value to see if it can be improved. Important to note that Download/Upload on CC don't have to be the same value & you may have a better experience with differing values. This is more of a real world test as you're actually doing traffic you would normally do. In regards to PingPlotter you will see a lot of packet loss at 1 second interval, set it back to the default 2.5 and then only focus on the bottom graph not individual hops and see if you get packet loss there, if you don't then that's great. Switch NAT to Open in WAN Settings and see if you get better speeds that way.
Gkear
Ive tried everything but speeds capped to 620 mb with the xr, does the traffic prio and geo filter work with the xr connected to ont? If not ill just need to use the bt smart hub till it gets updated, disappoint from a £300 router
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 8 Administrators Share Posted August 8 Yes they will work direct to the ONT. Copy the hub MAC address then set the XR to use that MAC, reboot and you may get better speeds after that.
Gkear
So ive taken away the hub the xr is direct to the ont again ive switxhed the nat filtering to off is that safe with the xr behind the hub?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 8 Administrators Share Posted August 8 The firewall is still active, it's just less restrictive

Ive removed the smart hub now and just got the xr to the ont I with just its deafaultac address I think, will I be better conecting the smart hub to find out uts mac address then remove it and enter its mac address in the xr? Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 9 Administrators Share Posted August 9 You want the smart hub MAC address to be used on the XR - essentially tricking the ONT into thinking the smart hub is connected instead as in some cases speeds can be restricted if it's not the original hardware. The hub may have a sticker on the underside with it on, otherwise yes you'd have to connect it back then copy. Gkear
