MikeC68
I just recently purchased a used but functional NETGEAR Nighthawk Pro Gaming WiFi 6 Router (XR1000) w/ duma OS. The firmware version is 1.1.0.16_2.1.25. It is unclear to me whether or not a firewall is included w/ this router. Ive had SPI FWs w/ Netgear routers before, and i would prefer to have one w/ this router too. Does anyone know if one exists w/ this router? If so where would i find it? Do i have to get netgear armor to enable it? What about the DPI function? Does that apply to a built in FW thats included w/ the package?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 22 Administrators Share Posted June 22 It has a built in firewall but you're not able to configure it at all. You can check out what Armor does here: https://www.netgear.com/uk/home/services/armor/ but I don't believe it has any configurable options either, it's more like an Anti-virus from what I can see. DPI works as is.
MikeC68
Is it an SPI firewall or DPI? Maybe both mean the same type of thing. Do you see information about this somewhere? I dont mind not configuring it or disabling it. I just want to know its there.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 22 Administrators Share Posted June 22 Ah I thought you were referring to our DPI for QoS. The firewall will be the default one Netgear always use and as we didn't create it I'm not sure which one it is and there isn't any information online about it. I suspect because most people will be content with the built in firewall + Armor if they wish - these routers are not normally bought with the intention to adjust firewall settings. It's not going to be an enterprise level firewall by any means but it will be enough for normal home usage.
