ErikNox Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 Sorry if this is a dumb question but I was wondering if I can use my old ASUS Rapture as a ONT or “modem” for my R3 I have local fiber internet and my fiber box that is on the wall does not connect to my WAN like it doesn’t work so I was just wondering if my old ASUS would work so I don’t have to fork up another 100 plus. Thanks
scaryp Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 Yup, just place the IP of the R3 into your Asus DMZ So long as you don't have the same IP space over lap, you should be good ErikNox 1
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 22, 2024 Administrators Posted February 22, 2024 What do you mean the box on the wall doesn't connect to your WAN exactly?
ErikNox Posted February 22, 2024 Author Posted February 22, 2024 I have like a Ethernet port that connects to our fiber on the wall it’s like a little box and in the past I would connect a router there and it would work but with the R3 I tried to connect it to the WAN port on the R3 and I wouldn’t get internet.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 22, 2024 Administrators Posted February 22, 2024 Do you know if your require PPPoE/VLAN in order to get a connection?
ErikNox Posted February 22, 2024 Author Posted February 22, 2024 I’m not sure. Do I try both and if so how would I try both?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 23, 2024 Administrators Posted February 23, 2024 It's not something you could try as would require specific credentials/values, if you don't know then it's likely you don't need it. Are you able to reboot the box on the wall? If so reboot it, wait 2 minutes, reboot the R3, wait 4 minutes then see if you get internet through it
ErikNox Posted February 23, 2024 Author Posted February 23, 2024 Unfortunately I cannot reboot the box on the wall should I post a picture to show what it is exactly?
ErikNox Posted February 23, 2024 Author Posted February 23, 2024 It’s the one on the right. That’s what I connect to the WAN on the R3 and it wouldn’t work.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 23, 2024 Administrators Posted February 23, 2024 Check the Asus internet settings and try to mirror those on the R3 to see if you can get a connection that way.
