What is Geo-latency ? Is Steady Ping helpful when you have Fiber ?

Hi all,

I just have some questions about Geo-latency and Steady Ping :

- What is Geo-Latency ? Does it work on COD ?

- Is Steady Ping really helpful if you have Fiber (~19 ms ping on servers) ?

Steady Ping seems great but i feel some times it makes my games worse than without it and when i see the ping i get without it : there is little spikes (+/- 3-5 ms difference). So i don't know if those spikes are actually bad for the gameplay.

Is it better that i enable Steady Ping or not ?

Geo-Latency allows games previously unfilterable to be filtered as well as allowing things like Discord and your friends to connect to you without having to add them like you previously had to. It does work for CoD.

Steady Ping will be helpful if you have any fluctuations in ping at all, if you feel you have a better experience without that's absolutely fine.

Keep in mind with Ping Assist that it may get games outside your radius that fall under the ping value you set.

That’s a great explanation Fraser😊

in regards to the fluctuations, what should I take into account the most when tracking it, should it be the ingame ping or the app itself? Additionally, if my ingame ping fluctuates around 1-2 ms (maybe 3 depending on the server) is this a reason to “not” use steady ping?

How much above the average latency does steady ping target? I feel like my latency is way higher, like 15+ ms more than usual.

I'd say the Geo-Filter ping as that is the ping direct to the server which you have some control over. Steady Ping on the simple mode generally adds 5-10ms on top so if your fluctuations are that small you should be fine without it.

5-10ms as above but it will try to compensate based on the spikes/fluctuations you're having. If you feel it's adding too much you can use the expert mode and set a target ping - i.e. if your ping is 10ms but fluctuates between 10 - 20ms then you can set expert to 20ms.

Hello Fraser, I have a question. I have no issues using Discord when Geo-Latency is disabled, am I doing anything wrong?

No nothing wrong, we will have added some servers to the whitelist so you can connect

So is it certain that turning off Geo-Latency shouldn’t affect your geo-filter settings and make you connect to far away servers you didn’t expect (being a bug?) or is this a part of how the geo-filter works now? I see many people saying that you should turn this setting off to go back to the old school geo-filter so I am still slightly confused on that end. It kind off makes me want to turn it on and off because of the unpredictable chance I get an american server living in Europe even though I am using strict mode and all settings are correctly set, which is kind of a shame since not needing to add friends to a list with geo latency would be much more convenient.

Correct yes. However, it's not necessarily a bug if you get a game outside your radius with Geo-Latency on, that can happen, it just means that despite the game knowing putting you on that server is going to give you a bad experience it does it anyway. So we're adjusting parameters to find the sweet spot where that happens very little.

There is likely a NAT server being blocked by the Geo-Filter when that happens, have a look at the map when you do the test and allow the server that gets blocked.

Aw that makes much more sense all things considered! Any way I can help (if possible) with that process I would love to, since it helps every single of us.😊

@Netduma Fraseravviando il test ho rilevato un server bloccato ,ho consentito il server su geofiltri,al riavvio  del dispositivo sempre nat non disponibile con geo-latency non attiva.cosa posso fare?

You may need to do it a few times as they may use multiple servers, once you get them all it should work. If you could provide the IDs of the servers as well we can get them whitelisted.

Brilliant to hear that, thank you very much for those 4 servers, I'll get the team to whitelist them
