LordofBiggles
Hi, hopefully someone might be able to advise on best setup. I've a BT fibre to home connection, which is PPPoE, with 900 down, and 100 up speeds. Current setup is the BT ONT modem to a TP-Link router (wifi off) providing DHCP and 3x TP-Link Deco XE75 acting as mesh wifi network access points. I've a PS5, PC, and a Xbox Series X hardwired to the main router, via a 5 port gigabit switch. My intention was to replace the existing main TP-Link router with the R3. However, I'm only getting 300 - 400ish of my 900 when I do that. Which as you'll appreciate isn't great. Is that likely to be something improved in near future via firmware? An alternative would be replace the ethernet switch with the R3, as the PS5, Xbox, and PC are really the only devices I'm interested in anyway via the R3. However, that's like to cause double NAT issues, isn't it? Open to any suggestions really? Thanks!
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted December 19, 2023 Administrators Share Posted December 19, 2023 Yes we think we can potentially increase the speeds with PPPoE so we'll be working on that. That could cause some NAT issues but if you put the R3 in the TP Link DMZ that should resolve it.
LordofBiggles
Thanks ... any other steps I should take? Should I leave DHCP active on the R3? I guess if it's in the DMZ of the main router then it needs to set the IP addresses of the devices connected to it, and the main router doesn't have any 'impact' on those devices access to the wider Internet, all ports are open (that the R3 allows). Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted December 19, 2023 Administrators Share Posted December 19, 2023 DHCP should be active on the R3 as it gives IP addresses to devices connected to the router. No just the WAN IP of the R3 (from Settings > WAN) in the DMZ on the other router and you're good to go.
LordofBiggles
Any news on higher speed PPPoE connections being better supported? PPPoE is the most common connection in the UK. I think only Sky and Talk Talk don't use it. It's annoying to have spent so much on a router and have to keep using my old one.
wdz
Hi, I'm from Poland and I have the same situation as you. My supplier gives me 1g/1g optical fiber. the only thing I managed to get is a provider close to the router, in this case also a regular TP-Link. This is to clone the Mac TP-Link address and use it in R3. But despite every configuration, R3 still does not achieve the speeds offered by TP-link. I just bought r3, I thought such problems were solved quickly. now I'm worried that the regular Tp-link that my operator gives me is better than r3. Additionally, the operator gives the device for free. but he only has access to it. My son and I play a lot and we have an offer for gamers, and the technical support configures everything to ensure stability and connection. Unfortunately, after purchasing the r3, the jitter is higher and the speeds are lower. as if the internet on the r3 router was not as stable as the one configured by the provider. please release this screwing software.
