Ping Stabilizer

I get this 9/10 times now!!

doesn’t matter where the server is, but noticed it ties in with poor hit detection and on occasion some packet burst as indicated on screen in game.

so I’ve just blocked them, but would be nice to know why all of a sudden this is happening.

I’ve been gaming on MW3 tonight for 3hrs and it’s work less than a handful of times.

Afternoon @Netduma Fraser

I've noticed that when I play The Finals nothing comes up at all, in the GeoFilter or the Ping Stabilizer.

I'll be testing with Destiny 2 later, so will let you know what happens with that game.

When it does work, I feel it defo makes a difference, crisper hit detection and zero ping spikes or packet bursts, but when its like the images I have a spiking ping and like I say I get the packet burst icons...maybe its getting nullified by EOMM.

Great to hear you see the difference when it is working! Let us know about Destiny. Also try removing the device from the Geo-Filter, changing the PC device type (icon) in Device Manager to a PlayStation and then re-add it to the Geo-Filter, does it work more consistently then?

Hey @Netduma Fraser

So Done as you said and I took some images of the results, hopefully they are attached.

Destiny 2 just kept saying stabilising, throughout every crucible game I played.

The Finals over every game had the same outcome as seen in the images, the ping kept fluctuating, in the images I think it shows a 10ms ping difference, but in the same match it went as much as a 25ms difference.

MW3 games were pretty stable and the ping optimizer worked well in every game since I changed the icon to that of a playstation console, hit detection was pretty good too.....guessing the router cant do anything about the corner campers yet lol

Does having the PC set as a console affect the servers/connection? As in different Servers etc? And I notice I no longer get option of adding the game I'm playing to the PC!!

Okay so to summarize, switching the PC to a console made both the ping appearing and stabilizing working a lot more consistent? Your ping for Destiny 2 is quite low however for the other games it is quite a bit higher, I think you'd benefit from using the expert mode of Steady Ping for these games to increase the buffer more, maybe up to 20/30ms and see if the game is more stable then.

Changing to the console won't affect the servers or connection quality at all, that's right switching to the console is more general than specifically selecting the games which is why you don't add games using it that way.

Is the expert mode setting of maybe an extra 20/30ms from the ping that the optimizer is set at?

Sorry @Netduma Fraser mate, went to use ping optimzer to fing the optimised ping to then do as you said above, but now it wont work, if I do test my ping it works, but then when I go to optimize the ping it keeps saying;

Ping Optimizer has encountred a problem

DumaOS is unable to complete ping optimizer process due to external circumstances

I've redone the optimzer a few times now and still no joy, done on PC, Mac, Apple Phone.....same problem.

Guidance apprecaited

Ping Optimizer adjusts Congestion Control which eliminates bufferbloat/ping increases when your connection is being saturated i.e. under heavy use. The ping it mentions there is the ping you would have if your connection was under heavy use and the ping it changes to is the ping you would have with it applied when the connection is being heavily used.

That's separate to your game ping, Steady Ping applies a buffer to your game ping, giving you a slightly higher ping that absorbs any spikes / fluctuations in the ping so you have a consistent ping throughout the whole game and gives you a better experience overall. You just need to click Steady Ping on the Geo-Filter map to adjust it.

You can leave Ping Optimizer as it is, it should still be using the previous settings - we're looking into making that feature more reliable.

The devs would like to organize a remote session to take a look at this issue with you further tomorrow, please follow these instructions:

  1. Download Anydesk from here: https://anydesk.com/en-gb/downloads/windows
  2. Ensure you are connected to the R3 and on the router interface and are able to attempt game searches at the same time at the session
  3. Let us know here when you're ready tomorrow
  4. Me or dev will ask you to PM them the Anydesk ID at the top of the program

Hi @Netduma Fraser No probs mate, it will be around 1230 -1300 if that's ok?

Any specific game you'd like me to have ready to go?

Just noticed an update, you want me to do that or leave it until after the remote session??

Ok, I found these issues, I'll indicate which ones are bugs and which ones I need to follow up on.

  • We fail parsing Steady Ping data in the UI in some cases so game hosts are forever stuck in the "Stabilizing" state or the state they were. - Obvious bug
  • Steady Ping not working Destiny 2, it is forever stuck in the Stabilizing state - this looks like it's a bug, if Steady Ping attempts to stabilize that means it would benefit from it but we fail to do so. I'll talk to QA and other devs if they know this already. If they don't, they will. - this is most likely a bug, but tbh we were in the lobby for almost the whole duration while I was looking at this. If it is the same during the game it is definitely a bug.
  • Steady Ping failed (desynchronised) in Finals. We could not replicate this in the remote session, but I'll pass this on see if we can replicate it internally instead. - this can be a bug, or just the connection was that bad during that time that it broke Steady Ping temporarily, then it retried and succeeded. Maybe we can do it better in cases like that I don't know, I pass this on as well.

Again, thanks for the help @FallenGhoul

We are looking at improving the reliability of this, do you play any other games? If so could you see whether you get the same problem when those servers are showing?

have the same problem but with madden
