dubNinja
I have a R2 with 3 Asus routers in AP mode downsrteam in a AiMesh network. Im wondering if geofilteing always has a moderate Nat type, or if the Asus routers are messing with it. Thanks.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted November 20, 2023 Administrators Share Posted November 20, 2023 If it's the R2 that the devices are getting an IP from then it shouldn't cause a NAT issue. Make sure the WAN IP of the R2 (found on the System Information page) is in the DMZ on your ISP modem/router (if applicable) and you should be good
dubNinja
ok thanks I'll give that a try and report back. Netduma Fraser

And Im still stuck on moderate Nat type. I don't know why it's not Open! I've tried setting a static IP and Reserving DHCP with no effects
dubNinja
My current setup is running the Asus/AI.mesh as the router/host with the R2 and PS5 conneted downstream, using DMZ on the Asus porting the R2's IP address. This has the Geo fencing working but still giving me a moderate Nat type. Idk any ideas.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted November 21, 2023 Administrators Share Posted November 21, 2023 Where are you checking the NAT type exactly? In the game? If so this could be a misreading, disable the Geo-Filter then launch the game and see if it is open
dubNinja
Ya im checking in-game and no even with the Geo-Filter off i'm still getting a Moderate Nat.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted November 21, 2023 Administrators Share Posted November 21, 2023 Have you ever had an Open NAT with this setup i.e. without the R2?

Yes without the R2 connected I get Open nat. Could it be an issue with a double nat scenario?
dubNinja
what I really need is an AP mode for the R2 any chance this could be update? Grasping at straws here.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted November 21, 2023 Administrators Share Posted November 21, 2023 Most likely but that's what the R2 in the DMZ of the upstream router should resolve, was it the WAN IP you entered in? Unlikely as that would prevent the use of the features which is the point of having the R2 over other routers but it's not a definite no!

Ya I entered the R2's Wan IP address, is there anything else I'm missing?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted November 21, 2023 Administrators Share Posted November 21, 2023 So just to clarify, there is one Asus router upstream that is part of a mesh of Asus routers and an R2 connected to it, is there any other routers/modem such as from the ISP? Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted November 21, 2023 Administrators Share Posted November 21, 2023 Right okay so is your Asus router in the DMZ on your ISP modem and R2 in the DMZ on your Asus router? The mesh routers I assume just act like WiFi extenders, they don't give the R2 an IP address, the R2 WAN IP comes from the Asus router is that right? dubNinja
could I setup a IPv6 firewall with the R2 set as Allowed, therefore bypassing the Nat???

It could still be the Geo-Filter causing the misreading perhaps - you may need to reboot the gaming device to double check. Otherwise in theory that could work, first try connecting the R2 directly to the Asus if possible and see if it is open then.

dubNinja
ya I was probably over complicating things. If anyone else is having issues just let the DHCP and UPnP do its thing. Netduma Fraser
Tony23
I am using a 5G router as my ISP. Is there any way I can get open or moderate NAT?

If you can't then no you won't be able to unfortunately
Tony23
Unfortunately strict NAT when connected directly. However it switches to moderate, when I use a VPN... I cant tell how this is possible.
