Please advise on my current Netduma R2 Setup

Hello, i bought my Netduma R2 Router a while back in 2022 and been pretty happy with it so far even though it has been not so much beneficial on some my games (Destiny 2 and FIFA) in terms of latency etc., though i do love having the level of control which is offered and the additional features.

I live in Mauritius which is in the middle of the ocean without any servers and the closest ones are South Africa [60ms] and SEA countries such as Malaysia and Singapore [110ms].

My ISP router uses GPON connection into a Huawei HG8245H (Restrictive Access/Non-Administrator) to provide Internet services into our home and I have the Netduma R2 connected into the ISP Router (Piggyback) under the following :

  • Set Netduma R2 to DMZ.
  • Set a Static IP to Netduma R2.
  • Disabled HG8245H Wi-Fi and uses only the one by the Netduma R2 router.
  • Disabled UPnP on HG8245H.

The above setup works fine and i get the utmost connection speed [Download - 100mbps / Upload - 20mbps] provided by the ISP.

What bothers me is that i have some games which i have recently port forwarded some ports for my PS5 connection to EA servers for EASPORTFC 2024 on the Netduma R2 but not on the HG8245H.

Do i need to port forward the ports on the HG8245H too?

Additionally if i am missing anything which could improve my networking based on how i have the Netduma R2 currently set up, please feel free to advise proper change.

Sounds like you've set it up with your connection perfectly. As you have set the DMZ on the HG to the R2 this directs ALL traffic to the R2 so you do not need to do anything else on the HG such as port forwarding, you can use the R2 for everything.
