I've had this problem since I got the router 2nd hand, and I've seen at least one other post with the same problem on a more, newer model of router.

Is there anyway to get this fixed without having to restart the router?

More importantly, would there ever be software update to fix this permanently?

Go to the System Information page and then in the Rapp panel menu ≡ change the retries to 5, reboot from the interface, wait 4 minutes before accessing and see if it works then please.

It is unlikely the R1 will see another update unfortunately, the hardware is just very old and the firmware has moved on a lot now, I don't think it'll be able to handle it, we'll do our best though to see if it is possible.
