Once a week router (R2) won't let me access the DumaOS interface unless rebooted. What should I do?

Hi everyone,

approximately once a week router interface goes to an infinite loading screen with the following (image attached); also apparently some of the extensions like Adblocker stop working as well...

once rebooted - unplugging the router for about 5 minutes, it goes back to normal for a week or so but happened multiple times in a row now.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

p.

Hi Fraser, and thanks for getting back to me.

Something else I would like to bring up is that I own the device for approximately a month now if that could be anyhow helpful, so I'd say I'm experiencing those issues right from the start.

I did the following;

  1. Got the Router
  2. First setup (might be worth noting that I noticed some issues with DNS and could not access the internet unless I changed the DNS to any public one, I think I used Google DNS in this case)
  3. Updated the firmware to the latest ver.
  4. Factory Reset
  5. First setup again, with the same issues, so I skipped it, and set up the DNS first
  6. Set the WiFi options to separate the 5GHz and 2.4GHz (simply because some of our devices connect to the 5GHz even though we don't want them to)
  7. QoS setup
  8. Devices Manager, renamed all the used devices, etc.

Then I just proceed with normal usage - not changing anything worth noting I guess, but just playing around with the functions, watching device manager sometimes, checking what exactly is being blocked by the Adblocker, etc.

After a week of the expected/standard usage, I suddenly notice that I can't access the DumaOS app on my phone so I pick up my laptop and same there.

Reboot, then everything is back to normal for a week or so, as I mentioned earlier.

It's not anything major, but I just can't imagine resetting it and unplugging it once a week just because it doesn't work all of a sudden.

Would something like a planned/scheduled reboot help? Some routers have this function now and I think this would solve my issue. I assume that is not an option as of now, as I can't find it anywhere. What do you think about adding something like this in the future?

If I can be of any help, let me know. 👋

Thank you for the detailed write-up, that's really helpful. That feature has actually been requested before so it is possible it will be implemented in the future.

Is it quite consistent in when it is unable to be accessible e.g. 7th day at 5pm? If so then if you grab the log an hour beforehand it may give us an insight into what may be occurring.

I think the best bet for the moment is to get you on the Early Access firmware to see if it's still an issue. If you sign up here: https://forum.netduma.com/topic/39415-introducing-early-access/ I can give you access to it.

Thanks, I'll try to track this and will grab the log when possible; it might take some time though 😃

For now, I requested early access and will try and see if that helps.

No worries at all. I've added you to Early Access, you can find it here: https://forum.netduma.com/forum/144-netduma-r2-early-access/

  • 5 weeks later...

I'm back after quite some time and I think I found something worth investigating... again 😁

We moved houses just recently and moved closer to the city center in Brno (CZ), which allowed me to finally hop on an optical/fiber connection instead of ADSL/Cable.

1) When we got here (to the new place) I Factory Reset the router and First Setup worked flawlessly, all the functions (Geo-Filter, Ping Heatmap, etc.) worked as intended.

2) Yesterday I lost connection while playing a game (all of a sudden internet stopped working for all the devices, but it was not an ISP issue), so I just unplugged and rebooted the router and everything worked again.

3) Today I lost the connection again and Factory Reset the router, but all of a sudden I can't access the Location Settings in Geo-Filter, nor in the First Setup, Ping Heatmap does not work as well, and all the Rapps take forever to load and sometimes the router is not responding at all to all the 192.168.77.1 prompts for few minutes. (See attached screens R1-R2) but the internet works.

4) I tried updating to some of the newer Early Access ver. then resetting back to 3.3.280 but the issues persist. The same goes for the Soft and Hard reset, no changes at all.

Any ideas? 🤔

I tried changing Network Settings > Wan > Network > DNS Upstream / DNS Override, but that did not help...

It's best to update to the Early Access firmware and stay on it, resetting then downgrading won't do anything. Try the new firmware and see if it persists, if it does post in Early Access and the team can look into it further.

Will do, thank you.
