Hello, Im Back :)

I'm looking into doing some more trouble shooting, i have the device out just going to set it up again.
I like the idea of the device but I have to see full speeds or what's the point?
The wifi issue and the pppoe would need to work correctly too as I don't want numerous devices just to get to one end point.
Apologies if I seem stern I've just dealt with a lot of poor companies in the past and this just seems to be a weird issue.
connecting the R2 to my existing tp link router to show the qos page asap.

Hello,

ok this is connected to the tp link router which is handling the pppoe authentication.

ironically this is the best ive seen it today, it started off at 450 for a while but ended up much higher than ive seen.

the speed is still all over the place compared with my other devices and obviously im not using pppoe on the R2.

i have the wifi/port scans/ ipv 6 all disabled too as i did earlier in the day so i have no idea why suddenly the max speed has increased as ive changed nothing.

if the throughput could be kept at the higher rate it seemingly just achieved this would improve things, but i would want it to handle the pppoe really as well.

Great to hear that and no worries at all, I totally understand where you're coming from. If it's not achieving your needs then of course you would wish to return it.

Set it up the R2 back to the ONT so the R2 is handling PPPoE, that's what you want to do so lets just start with that. Could you also use speedtest.net to test as well please just so we can get some alternative results. I'm not sure if you were referring to disabling IPv6/protection options on the R2 or not but if you weren't, disable IPv6 in LAN/WAN and the protection options in WAN Settings please as that should boost the speeds a little, give the router a reboot from the interface, wait 2 minutes. Once you've done that please do a speedtest.net test and let us know what you're getting.

Assuming you're still not receiving full speeds after that, please grab the MAC address of the router you previously had connected directly to the ONT, then in the R2 WAN Settings set the R2 to use that MAC address, give the router a reboot from the interface, wait 2 minutes and check the speeds again please. The reason I'm mentioning to do this is some ISPs are a bit funny about switching out routers and so you may not get full speeds for a few days if that is the case, by switching the MAC address we can fool the ISP into thinking you're using the old router and therefore higher speeds can be achieved sooner.

If that's still not working let me know and then I'll have a few other things we can try/test.

I dont expect you to still be replying this late but i appreciate it all the same.

connected direct to the ont box with the R2 and wifi disabled plus all the ipv6/protection options, so pppoe handled by the R2

set the mac address to be the same as 1 of the other devices, rebooted, waited 5 minutes -

I'm with BT broadband and when I use either of the other 2 routers TP link or BT smart hub the results don't change, as in I don't have to wait to get the advertised speeds when switching between the devices. so I would presume the mac isn't bound I guess?

I reply up until midnight BST/GMT every day other than Wednesday (my day off) so all good on that front!

Okay so no that won't be it unfortunately. On Connection Benchmark, what speeds does it say you're getting there? After you've done factory resets in the past are there any settings you change right away other than disabling QoS and the other settings you've mentioned so far?

As a test put the PC in the DMZ on the R2 then do a speedtest please and see what you get, after you've done that remove it from the DMZ again. I just want to see if with all traffic passing directly through to the PC whether that gives you higher speeds and therefore whether it is something on the router limiting you.

Set my pc ip address in the dmz and got the following result -

connectionbenchmarkpppoe.thumb.jpg.b1f2162beb08594c509c7eccb2303820.jpg

14558491379.png

when I factory reset I go through the setup screens and last few times I've tried to both skip what I can and sometimes not.

I can factory reset again and do as little as possible, what I will say is I noticed that when I input the pppoe credentials and then the R2 checks for an internet connection, it cant detect the internet. But if I wait the network adapter in windows shows I have the internet. so I continue past the failed connection test, setup the rest and sure enough the internet is live.

I did another reset late into the night and the results didn't change in any way, except this time it did detect the internet was live after inputting the pppoe details.

do these mean anything from the logs -

Very odd that the speeds are actually worse through DMZ. Change your DNS to 1.1.1.1 & 1.0.0.1 it may not help too much but it's worth a try. On the Traffic Controller page make a rule to allow ALL traffic to the PC then run a speed test again please. Nothing unusual in those logs as far I can tell, I have some of the same entries and everything is running fine.

just put one of the other routers on just to make sure speeds are still good and the TP link router result is below -

just gonna let the kids game for a bit so wont do any more until later on today.

It's very odd that the speeds have dropped right back down again, could you just try the .347 from Early Access, then factory reset, go through the wizard but don't change anything and disable any prioritization is sets manually and then run a test please? We just released it on Friday so not sure if you've tried that one yet.

The speed drops is what i was originally finding very strange as well, not consistent in any way. Last night in the tests above i was getting 550 ish via pppoe and now its barley scraping 200.

I will try the firmware, I did briefly install it to look at it but wanted to test on stable branch before committing to it.

I will install the firmware later as my youngest is online gaming now, may not get to it until late tonight again but will let you know the results.
