Just bought an r2 will be here tomorrow all being well.

I have used a Netduma device before and actively posted on here a few years back before v3 firmware was out!

I see the R2 has the newer firmware now and so Im back to see if it can help with my gaming experience once more.

I have a BT FTTP connection @1gb dl 115 up so just need to make sure were connecting to local London servers for games to get a better experience than we often get right now.

Looking forward to having a play around with the router, is there any beta releases i need access to or will the current version of firmware be good enough?

Thanks

David

ok R2 arrived, in a simple brown box not sealed.

The R2 box itself has 1 seal still sealed and 1 seal not so and looks like the device could have been opened by anyone, about to check contents but seems i got an unsealed R2 unit.

Most likely the package was opened by customs which they do from time to time to check the contents matches the description.

pics attached you can see the outer brown box has no seals at all and the main netduma r2 box has one seal still in place and the other was already broken.

i am now having an issue where the 5g wifi is not coming up at all, ive seperated the channels and renamed them both to be different but no 5g up whereas the 2g is

reconnected tcp link router and both speeds and wifi are all back to normal - https://www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat?test-id=64fc4116-c0b6-43ba-9a7a-4137af77c02e

as you can see pings can get a little poor when in full use of the internet using this router and thus why im looking for gaming packet priority.

just so your aware i should have said sooner, the tests are run off my main pc with a wired connection. The wifi i have tested via 3 different devices samsung galaxy s22 etc so not old stuff either.

That's right, it won't be the latest publicly available but it will be a firmware that has been out for a while and therefore has less of a chance of causing immediate issues for a user.

For WiFi:

  1. Disable Mirror Mode, give 2.4/5GHz different names and apply - you'll want to connect to 5GHz specifically for speeds
  2. Use a WiFi analyzer to find the least congested channel and change to that
  3. Experiment with the widths to see what gives better results
  4. Ensure it's in an elevated position - not on a metal surface
  5. Ensure there aren't any electrical / wireless devices e.g headphones etc within close proximity ~3 feet if possible
  6. Set the antennae to this position _ | | _

Then see if it performs any better.

What are the speeds you're seeing through the R2?

I am getting usually 350 dl and 110 ul and ive disabled the qos fully.

occasionally it will rise to 500 dl but even then the speed is like waves, down to 250dl and then up to 450 ish

Bufferbloat and Internet Speed Test - Waveform

thats one of the better results i got

I have also done all the things you suggested with the wifi and as i say the 5ghz has gone completely and the 2g is disappearing a lot and then coming back up.

i have tried the latest stable version of the firmware and the latest beta release too, i always factory reset after upgrading or downgrading firmwares.

i have tried the r2 connected too both the bt home hub 2 latest version for fttp with up to date firmware and ive tried it with my tcp link router too.

I have also ran the r2 straight from the ont box and used the pppoe for the connection.

none of the above give max throughput using the r2 in any way. Its a shame as i was looking forward to the geo filter etc but the device just isnt pulling the 1gb connection well enough.

the r2 is up and down like mad, one minute its 300 to 500 mb then another time it will hit 600 and down to 350 ish, but at no point can i hit max of 915mb dl

I have been in contact with yourself via emails today and to say I'm disappointed is an understatement.

the device came in an unsealed box

the WIFI keeps dropping out on the 2gh channel

the 5ghz channel isn't coming up at all

I've tried both the current stable branch firmware and the beta firmware and factory resetting every time

The device will not reach 915mbps dl at any point - given the 1gb ports i would have expected it to reach these speeds.

you yourself have said it could be because of the pppoe side of the device - which means its not fit for purpose.

I've tried using both my own TP link router and the BT router to negate the pppoe issue, this gave slightly increased speeds up to on average 600 but mostly 450 ish

everything is connected directly to the R2 netduma device, I've even made sure the WIFI has been off when doing speed tests and even on, there is no difference at all in speed.

I've literally done everything you've asked for and nothing has solved the issue so I asked for a return and refund as the device isn't capable/fit for purpose.

you have stated I must pay for the return and your going to deduct the original shipping costs off the refund!

I'm disgusted to say the least, and you should be picking the faulty device up at your cost not mine and not deducting anything off the purchase price as the device is faulty/not sealed box/fit for purpose (pppoe problems), wifi not coming up.

I look forward to your responses both on here and via email.

I certainly will not be recommending your devices or services to anyone i know.

other thread is here

So just to clarify, with the R2 not handling PPPoE the speeds still don't increase? Can you provide a screenshot of your QoS page please?

this is what i keep saying yes, and all the qos is disabled it even states as such when i go to that page.

By purchasing the router you're agreeing to the terms set out on our website. I explained that the package is opened so we can flash the router to a more up to date firmware. A user cannot determine that the router is faulty, yes I said it could be an issue which it didn't turn out to be in the end but more troubleshooting would either lead us to a solution or a faulty determination. I understand you're frustrated, if you would like to continue troubleshooting then great either we'll come to a solution or we won't and I'll declare it faulty and then you'll get your full refund, you've been great on the information you have provided thus far and so it is likely that within the next few responses we would have reached an endpoint. If you want to just return it then you would have to send it back and we would deduct the shipping cost. I am just following the legal terms on the website agreed to.

Please let me know what you would like to do.
