WIFI Range On The 5GHZ Is Poor.

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have recently upgraded my Modem, Router and Extender.

Virgin Media Super Hub 4 to The Super Hub 5
Nighthawk XR500 - Nighthawk XR1000
Netgear Extender EX7700 - EAX80

I have everything setup however i am experiencing worse wifi signal on the new router and extender compared to the XR500 & EX7700.

Both router and extender are in the exact same locations and positions as before with the antennas positioned the same.

My ethernet speeds are fine just the wifi range.

Ive tried the range from just the router and also from the extender and both have worse signal than the previous models.

Any help would be great.

Setup:

Virgin Media - 1000mb Download 53mb Upload

Virgin Media Super Hub 5 - Modem Mode Enabled.

1m Cat7 Ethernet cable from the super hub to the XR1000

3m Cat7 Ethernet from the XR1000 to my PC.

Speed Tests are fine using ethernet.

Welcome to the forum!

Try these suggestions:

  • Disable Smart Connect
  • Use a WiFi analyzer to find the least congested channel and change to that
  • Ensure it's in an elevated position - not on a metal surface
  • Ensure there aren't any electrical / wireless devices e.g headphones etc within close proximity ~3 feet if possible
  • Set the antennae to this position _ | | _

and see if it improves at all.
