First a CGI error! Then it resets it self! Then!

Recommended Posts

Then I have to use the reset button. Then it takes 2 times to get my back up settings to load. Then!!!!! It will not recognize device in geo filter. It will not find device in QOS! It says it’s not connected to the router every time you select a menu item to load. This thing is a POS!!!! I’m tired of F___ing with it. Fix it!!!!!

It's quite possible the issue lies within the backup config and you're re-introducing the error every time you upload it. Just do a factory reset without restoring the settings, does that allow it to work correctly?

Well last time trouble with this router I had to tftp the firmware on to even get it to load any backup. I tried to reload the firmware via tftp and it would not work, I kept getting  network is unreachable. So I gave up and reloaded the back up again. Then I got some long error message showing all kinds of errors here is a screen shot. Why did it not respond to tftp?

I think NG removed a part from the guide that allowed it to work, I'm not sure why they would have done that. Does a normal factory reset without restoring still give that same error above then?

I don't know? I have not tried accessing those on just a factory reset.I have a life other than getting this damn router to work. I can tell you this will be the last netgear product I ever buy! Only router I have has that was worse was a Linksys AC1900 I had to send back because it would just reboot over and over 2 of them did this. My last nighthawk 3200 was ok it it initially had problems. But this new crap sending me to their damn website not to the router OS it total crap. If this damn thing runs too long without a reboot it does this shit., I'm tired of it. Why the hell would they do that??? I should not have to go through all of this. It should not be crashing then f___ing up corrupting shit every 4 months.

When an issue like this occurs it's always best to try a factory reset without changing any settings after or restoring a config to check whether those actions are causing an issue, give that a go and see if it works. Are you referring to accessing via routerlogin.net? If so try to access using 192.168.1.1 instead and it should allow you consistent access to the interface. A factory reset isn't just for hardware issues and actually it's used a lot for any software issues that may occur.

I know how to bypass the stupid routerlogin.net it’s very annoying. Why am I dealing with this again in the 1st place?? This is the second time I have had to waste hours of my time on this POS!! I have never had an issue before like this with routers previously. Backups always worked. What is the F___ing point of a backup if it never works. Also I followed netgears TFTP directions step by step and the router power led never starts flashing. I either got a lemon or this is a POS. Which I think is the later considering all the complaints here and on the netgear forums. Just another company releasing tech before the bus are worked out.

I'm trying to help, I can't necessarily tell you why an issue has occurred or not, if a backup has saved an issue then it will then cause the issues to re-occur. Better to factory reset, ensure the issues aren't present, make your changes, check the issues have stopped then you can make a backup. If you believe the hardware itself is faulty you can try to get a replacement from the retailer or Netgear directly.

I did the factory reset. Now when trying to set up geo filter I’m not getting device error. But I’m getting another error if I try to move the damn circle!!!!!

I got that error too, it fixed itself after the reboot.

As I said earlier after rebooting it erased all my settings and booted up as if a factory reset was done. But it ran slow. It loaded my config after doing a factory reset. But then started giving me all these other errors. To get it to work I finally had to give up on my old settings and do a factory reset and manually change everything I needed. Every time this thing has an update or crashes it acts stupid after the fact. It resets all my settings. I will not load the saved backups correctly.  I also have had connection issues. Which I think I finally eliminated through changing some of the new wireless features that are unstable. I don’t remember what I changed. So I will have to trouble shoot that all over again if it acts up. Again this is my opinion  and it’s not just directed at netgear etc. The CEO’s, shareholders and salespeople push the developers to put this stuff out before it’s really ready. I thought I had waited long enough before upgrading. Apparently not.
