Good afternoon,

Setup the R2 this morning and looking for a bit of guidance on optimising.

Current setup is:

ONT -> ISP Router -> R2 -> GAMING PC

Currently the R2 is passing through my ISP router and I've added the MAC in the DMZ so I can now use the R2 for internet etc. For some reason I can connect it directly to my ONT, I think this might be an ISP thing but I get no internet that way. Same goes for having no ISP router, I get "couldn't connect to internet" error message.

Does this look right? Also, are there any config settings I need to change to have ONT - R2 - GAMING PC?

Am I right in thinking that I now need to disable WiFi and disconnect all devices from the ISP router in order to maximise the DumaOS software in it's current state?

below is net diagram to show current setup.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum!

It's either your ISP requires their router to be used or your connection requires PPPoE/VLAN/DHCP identifiers which the ISP router is handling and so if you wanted to use the R2 direct to the ONT you'd need to mirror those settings.

Otherwise the setup is absolutely fine and yes make sure to connect all devices to the R2 so QoS works optimally - you don't have to disable WiFi on the ISP router but might be a good idea to if you think devices may reconnect to it, either automatically or manually.

Thanks Fraser! Ideally I'd like it straight from the ONT, so will perhaps get on the ISP.

How much difference would not having the ISP router make? Or is it a "how long is a piece of string" question?

Thanks again

I mean in theory, with the R2 in its' DMZ, all devices connected to the R2 the connection will go straight through the ISP router and direct to the R2 without any influence so really you're unlikely to notice any difference. Statistically it might save you 1-3ms going direct to the ONT, depends on the ISP router really.
