Gunzby
I just want to figure out what I'm going to do before the R1 gets here. I'm using a TP-Link dual band. I know the R1 is on 2.4. Can I run the R1 on 2.4 and just turn off 2.4 on the TP-Link so it just broadcasts at 5? My setup will be wall> modem>R1> TP-Link with the Xbox wired to the R1. I'm not worried about using QoS, but I certainly want to use the geofilter without having my laptop wired to the R1.
Guest Netduma_Iain
Thanks for purchasing the R1 Gunzby Ok if you want 5, then I suggest you keep the setup and disable wifi on the R1. Then everything should work well. If the TP-Link has modem mode then you have the best setup possible. If not any device connected to the TP-Link will look like one device on the R1. Hope that helps
Gunzby
I'll probably do that. I'm obviously going to use the R1 for gaming so I'll just leave it in modem mode till I turn the game on. After that I'll turn the wireless on that and turn the wireless off the TP-Link
abc123
My setup is: Modem <-> R1 (Wireless 2.4Ghz, DHCP, Firewall, UPnP) <-> WRT1900AC (Wireless 5Ghz, everything turned off otherwise) This allows me the best of both worlds: All of the R1 features work (Congestion Control, Device Manager) and I get the fastest wifi available. Gunzby
Thanks I was thinking that would work. So I would need to turn off 2.4ghz and DHCP? Anything else?

Gunzby
I found it. It's for a TP-Link WDR4300 if anyone is interested here is the page. http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?faqid=417 I'm assuming that you would also disable the firewall in the secondary router.
