Modem only version

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how easy it would be to make just a modem only version, to be able to use just the dumaOS portion, so could then use a mesh system to provide the Wifi, rather than buying an R1 or R2 (sadly missing wifi 6 :(

Hey, welcome to the forum!

A pure modem does not have many options as they do not do any routing of internet to devices - they pass the internet straight through to a router. A modem/router in one on the other hand, such as what Telstra use which has DumaOS on is more do-able. However, the issue with this is there are a lot of different types of connections and a router is a way to have universal compatibility. You can use a mesh WiFi system if you want, just disable the WiFi on the router.

Thank for replying so quickly. That makes sense, would it be feasible to make a unit that did have the wifi hardware, as a cost saving?

I imagine it would be more expensive as it would need to be both a modem and a router or do you mean ourselves make a mesh system?
