gisuck
Hey There, For some reason, my ISP decided several times to change the WAN DHCP lease to 1 hour. When this happens, at the expiration of the lease, the LAN ports for some reason recycles. When this happens, my VPN sessions to my work stops because of the disconnection that's happening. The problem exists on the GA firmware release and the current public beta. Any idea why this might be happening?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 27, 2020 Administrators Share Posted September 27, 2020 Are you connected direct to a modem or a modem/router at all? The router itself needs to get a new IP then so is likely having trouble resolved that. We are aware of similar issues like this, best to upgrade to the beta, factory reset and then let us know on the beta forum so we can investigate further. gisuck
Yeah, I'm connected directly to the modem. Last time I had this issue, I complained to my ISP that the DHCP is too short and that the brief moment to get the lease renewed, I have no internet which causes my VPN disconnection issues. At the time, they increased the lease time to more than a day which helps getting a new lease before the current one expires. I noticed today that my ISP reduced the lease back to 1 hour. The behaviour seems to be the same with the XR500. The LAN ports will briefly recycle when the lease is renewed. And it's only the LAN ports. The wireless uptime matches pretty much to the WAN port uptime. Just weird that the LAN would shutdown and recycle. I'm currently on the Open Beta right now, and had to disable the QoS features because IPv6 broke. My ISP is dual stack and relies on the IPv6 for the IPTV I have in my home. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 27, 2020 Administrators Share Posted September 27, 2020 Thanks for the information, I think it's related to this issue here so please briefly summarize what you're seeing there and include a link to this topic. https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-Pro-Gaming-DumaOS-3-0/Devices-disconnected-100-CPU-Used/td-p/1978094/jump-to/first-unread-message
gisuck
I don't think this issue is related to the problem I'm having. CPU time is near idle for me, and I can access my router without issues. Just the LAN ports seems to be resetting at the short DHCP lease on the WAN port. It doesn't have enough time to issue a renewal at half the lease time. Once the WAN lease time get extended to something over 1 day, it's fixed and I don't see the issue anymore. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 27, 2020 Administrators Share Posted September 27, 2020 Can you make a new topic on the beta forum then please so that the Netgear devs can comment on it as it will be one for them to fix.
