ISP Login works with D6200 but not XR300

Recommended Posts

Hey, havent had this before....

After 3 months of perfect use a random reboot of the Netgear XR300 router caused it to loose all connectivity to internet and also found it had erased all my static routes.

I thought it might be a line issue but have since successfully had it running with a Netgear D6200 and and Exetel supplied H268A.

So after a hard reset I thought I would start with set up wizard, but i got "you have the wrong username or password"

If you try to manually set it up it will allow you to enter the info but will not assign an IP or DNS.

I have reset many times, modem and router, changed and checked cables, anyone got ANY FN IDEA WHAT TO DO NEXT?? Cheers

Hey, welcome to the forum!

I'm not quite sure I follow, once you've completed the setup wizard are you able to access the interface or the internet? It's not assigning IPs to devices that connect to it or it isn't being assigned an IP from the modem?

20200409_123802.thumb.jpg.2c2637658abf6254c54df54d7ffe5d64.jpgHi Fraser i can log onto dumaos. Through pc or laptop, no problem there.

Unfortunately when i go through "set up wizard" this is the pic i get below (incorrect isp login), but those same login details have worked for 3 months and still do work on 2 other routers.

After wizard failure i elect to "configure the internet myself)  (2nd pic). As you can see it allows me to enter login details, but will not assign an IP or DNS

I have tried different cables, power cycling, even did a hard reset on router

This has been running perfect for 3 months but friday it went into auto reboot, i lost signal and it wiped out all static routes also.

Strangely it all works perfectly with my Netgear D6200 and exetel issued H268A

Thankyou

Hey thanks,  was all working well... Then i changed the DNS like i always do, hit test, apply and reboot. It went back to the same problem. I went and changed back the dns to get automatically from ISP but all 000s again. Sorry but can u pls look into this further, thanks clint

Hi Fraser,  thanks for your help.  You managed to configure the isp but as soon as i changed dns it failed.

If i did a proper power cycle the signal would come back but as soon as you change those dns codes its all over.

Any other help or advice you could give?

Thanks Clint

That's really strange, perhaps the ISP doesn't allow you to change DNS. What DNS are you trying to use? The Exetel device looks like it has WiFi, is that right? Can you get the exetel to handle PPPoE? Or can you disable the exetel firewall settings?
