XR700 Reboot settings lost

Recommended Posts

XR700-V1.0.1.20

Firmware installed by web interface update tools. Router reset through web interface to defaults. Entered all configurations i desired including some LAN reservations for devices. Next morning my modem was hung and i restarted it. I then proceeded to access the router and reboot it too, but i went easy mode and used the web interface. Settings -> Administration -> Reboot

Sadly when the router came back online it was starting the setup all over again like i choose a factory erase.  This was totally unexpected.

I did take the time to reconfigure everything again, but have not used the reboot through the web interface again.

Am I missing a big save everything button? I plan to do some further testing when I can afford a little downtime to enter settings again and test.

That is very strange, it should not be resetting at all after a reboot. First thing I would suggest is to make a back up from Settings > Administration > Backup settings once it's all set again just incase so you can restore them if needed and not waste your time setting up over and over. If you click the 'i' on the top right of the interface and reboot from there does it reset as well? Similarly does it reset if rebooting using the button at the back of the router? Also I would suggest upgrading to this latest firmware: https://kb.netgear.com/000061714/XR700-Firmware-Version-1-0-1-24-Hot-Fix

Save the configuration just in case.

Reboot through standard administration worked like it should.

Reboot through the 'I' also worked like it should.

Rest button single push and not holding down worked like it should.

At this point in time it working list like it should rebooting and not loosing settings.

I will check out the hotfix next since it was suggested to use this version by you and a few others on the forums.

I can confirm on my both XR700-V1.0.1.20 that elelctric power failure or instability causes lost of config which looks like buggy design firmware.

I've upgraded to 1.0.1.34 now but there is no mention about fixing this problem in Release Notes.

Hey, welcome to the forum!

Sorry to hear you had this issue. A normal reboot won't cause this so if it had a surge that may have wiped the memory. Best to keep a saved config on hand for a situation like this so you can get up and running quickly.
