Callaise
Hey there. I recently purchased a Nighthawk XR450 router and have a fairly major issue. Due to limited cell signal in my home I make extensive use of WiFi Calling, however since I replaced my previous Netgear router with this one, calls will not connect. The phone shows AT&T Wi-Fi, but when I try to make any calls it just hangs there for a minute or two before reporting the call failed. I tried messing with Port Forwarding/Port Triggering, and sometimes it was able to connect the call, but then the caller on the other end couldn't hear me. Wi-Fi Calling works again if I put the old (slower) router back or try with a neighbor's network. Netgear's support agent didn't seem to understand what WiFi Calling is and was unable to assist me. Any help would be appreciated as the rest of the router works great. Thanks!
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted March 11, 2020 Administrators Share Posted March 11, 2020 Hey, welcome to the forum! Remove the port forwarding/triggering you have done. Then in WAN Setup disable SIP ALG and switch NAT to Open. If that doesn't help at all disable QoS completely in the Anti-Bufferbloat option menu and see if that helps. Callaise
Thanks for the reply! I removed all of the port forwarding and triggering, disabled SIP ALG, switched NAT to Open, and rebooted all devices. Unfortunately the problem persists. The phone is still reporting AT&T Wi-Fi, but then calls just stall Connecting and then eventually time out. Another thing I accidentally discovered is that rebooting the router via Administration/Reboot wipes the entire configuration and resets the router to defaults. Is this intended? I assumed it would simply reboot since Erase is in another menu. I have the configuration backed up so it's not that big of a loss, but does add time to troubleshooting. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted March 11, 2020 Administrators Share Posted March 11, 2020 That's unfortunate, have you tried disabling QoS completely? We have seen this issue (wifi calling) sometimes before so we are looking into it as well but if it doesn't work with QoS disabled then I would suggest connecting the old router to the XR and putting it in AP mode. That should in theory allow it to work whilst still allowing you to control your devices from the XR. That shouldn't happen at all, I'll report that to the team. Callaise
I've disabled QoS and all my test calls over Wi-Fi Calling went through with two-way audio, so that seems to be it. I look forward to a permanent fix, but this will serve for now. Thanks so much!
