Geofilter only working on one device?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I got my XR500 today and spent the day setting it up.

I have 2 PS4s and I've enabled geofiltering with both devices added.

When I run Destiny 2, the geo filter map only shows the activity for one of the consoles.

I've tried just having one console on at a time and also tried only having one of them added to the geofilter device at a time but no change.

Any reason why only one of them shows activity in the geofilter page? can you only have one device on geofilter at a time?

Thanks! :)

Hey, welcome to the forum!

Are they playing together as in same lobby? If so only one device needs to be Geo-Filtered. If playing separately you can add both to the filter, that is fine. Showing activity for one device is normal/expected, I believe this was to prevent it getting too confusing. We may do something in future where it's colour coded so you can see what each device is doing or something along those lines.

Thanks for the response Fraser!

The issue is, even if I remove one of them, PS4-2, PS4-1 still doesn't show any activity on the geofilter map.
I''ve also tried removing PS4-2 from the devices and only added PS4-1 but still no activity on the geo map.

Have you confirmed in the Device Manager that the devices you think are the PS4s have the same IP as what is shown in the PS4 settings? Could you provide a screenshot of your entire Geo-Filter page please with how it's normally set up?

This is what it's like normally but I've also tried removing PS4-2 (Atanyxx) and PS4-1 (Ab) still wouldn't show activity on the map.

Both are PS4 Pros, both are hard wired and have static IPs set on the router (.3 & .4) and I've confirmed the IPs match on the console to what the router shows on Device Manager (can provide screenshots if you want)

I have ISP gateway/modem/router on bridge mode connected to the XR500.
Both PS4s are hard wired to the XR500 (there are also multiple wireless/wired devices). I've attached network map, PS4s are all the way on the right
I've set IP reservation for both PS4s (I've changed their IP just in case).
I've hard turned off both consoles and deleted both devices from geofilter then flushed cloud.
I added just Ab PS4 (he one which wasn't showing on geofilter map) to geofilter devices then turned it on
Doubled checked IP on the console matches the IP I reserved then launched Destiny 2
In the game, I launched a matchmaking activity (strike) and checked the geofilter map, nothing even though the game matched me with 2 players quickly.

To further test, I switched off the PS4, deleted it from geofilter device then added the 2nd PS4 and turned it on.
I repeated the same steps on the 2nd PS4 (confirm IP is good, launch game, join strike) and now that one isn't showing anything on the geomap either :(

So, when I changed the ips for the consoles they didn't update in the device manager (is that normal? Shouldn't the device manager have their updated IPs?) So when I was adding them in geofilter devices, I don't think it was working due to incorrect ip set to the device in device mgr page.

Anyway, I deleted them from device manager and added them back in so now they have correct IP but before I can test again, our isp has an outage lol.

Will try again later today and provide an update.

Just to clarify, while I wait, the Geo filter map will only ever show activity for on of the devices but should be active on all added devices, correct?

Is there a way to find out which device's activity is being represented? Anyway to choose? If not, how does the router decide which one to show?

If map is showing activity for console 1 and I join it with console 2, would it show a 2nd player on the map?

Lastly, how can I test that the filter is working? Have a friend join ps4 party chat and see if I see them on the map? Maybe then make them leave, reduce radius to exclude them then have them try to join again which should fail?

Thanks again, truely appreciate the quick responses :)

Did you change the IPs directly on the consoles? If so that makes sense why it didn't change if the consoles weren't rebooted after. Always best to set the IP on the router.

It may show activity for both but no way to tell what icons are representative of what device.

As both consoles are in the same house they won't appear on the map at all.

Yes you could do that or just search normally and should see things blocked and allowed.

Thanks again. I had changed the IP on the router then rebooted the consoles and they got the new ips but the device manager still showed old ips.

Anyway, the outage is over and now my router won't even get an internet connection anymore (status shows no IP from isp).

Guess I'm done for today :(

After an hour on the phone and multiple reboots, still nothing.

Finally, I did a factory reset on my router and I'm back online now but I'm getting 100 down instead of the 900 I was getting earlier :(

Messing around with settings now to see if I can figure out what's up.

Sounds like when you went through the setup wizard it didn't detect the speeds properly and you didn't change it to the correct speeds. Are the speeds you expect in the Anti-Bufferbloat options?

SUCCESS!!

Added both devices, turned one on and did PS4 Internet Test which pings a dedicated server and it showed it on the map!
Then, I launched destiny and tried to join a strike, it blocked everyone and after a couple mins, put me in the strike alone.

Repeated the above on 2nd PS4 and got the same result :)

Not sure what caused it but factory resetting the router and not using IP reservation for the consoles seems to have solved it.

Thanks again for the assist Fraser.
