Raichu Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 Hi NetDuma. Been experiencing frequent issues of my bandwidth dropping the past week. Online videos buffer and my connection decline to about 10% of my speeds. Worked with Virgin Media regarding the issues and we have come to the conclusion the problem is isolated to my router. If I connect directly to modem issues are not present. I can temporarily resolve my issues by power cycling the router. Has there been an automatic update pushed out? Something has changed. Also any update on VPN hybrid? Bought the router specifically for this and am disappointed its taken so long to roll out. If anybody has any suggestions to resolve my issue, I would much appreciate it.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted July 15, 2018 Administrators Posted July 15, 2018 Hey, welcome to the forum! Do you have Anti-Bufferbloat set to when high priority traffic detected? Is this through WiFi/ethernet? Might have, check your version. We're trying to get a beta version available for users as pretty much done on our side
Raichu Posted July 15, 2018 Author Posted July 15, 2018 Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! Yes, Anti-Bufferbloat set to when high priority traffic detected. I am using an Ethernet connection. I avoid WiFi except for the iPad & Mobile devices. The current version is XR500 V2.3.2.22. Hey, welcome to the forum! Do you have Anti-Bufferbloat set to when high priority traffic detected? Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted July 15, 2018 Administrators Posted July 15, 2018 Possible it upgraded as thats the latest. Set anti bufferbloat to never and see if you still get speed decreases
Raichu Posted July 17, 2018 Author Posted July 17, 2018 Hi again. I gave it a full day of testing with the anti-buffer bloat disabled and still dropping connection regularly. This firmware update is causing me issues I think. I see other posts reporting similar things, having to restart there router to restore service, frequent disconnects etc. I stream online video all day every day I work offering support for content creators. I think I am going to unplug the router and just use my modem until there's a new firmware. FeelsBadman. Possible it upgraded as thats the latest. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted July 17, 2018 Administrators Posted July 17, 2018 I've reached out to Netgear again to see if there is another fix to be try as well as give them more information. A user with the same issue on the Netgear forum had very little issue once automatic game updates were turned off on the console. Can you try turning this off and see if the issue is resolved please?
Raichu Posted July 18, 2018 Author Posted July 18, 2018 I unplugged the Xbox for the day and the issue persisted so I factory reset the router and left it on default settings. Seems to be fine now. Cheers for the assistance I appreciate it. I've reached out to Netgear again to see if there is another fix to be try as well as give them more information. Raichu Posted July 19, 2018 Author Posted July 19, 2018 Scratch that.. Issues are present again today and I am getting less than 10 down. If I unplug the XR500 i get 380 down.

It seems this happens with other Netgear routers and Asus as well, maybe more to do with Virgin hardware than the xr500 possibly? https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Networking-and-WiFi/Slow-speed-with-hub-3-and-nighthawk-X10/td-p/3549719
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted July 19, 2018 Administrators Posted July 19, 2018 Disable QoS completely in Anti-Bufferbloats options and see if it happens. If not then it could be the above or related to something else.
