What If Cod Really Died?

We're not going to stop buying CoD, it's pretty much the only game I play (and accounts for 99% of my gaming time since CoD4) so I can only think of three ways that CoD as we know it would really die...

1) The developers go bust and there's some CoD legal issue that stops it being made by anyone else scenario.

Some equivalent, CoD-like in every way but name, would quickly replace it. They might not get it right first time but eventually they would, it would be more evolution than dissolution so this doesn't really count.

2) The apocalyptic scenario.

Any event that causes the complete breakdown of society, the collapse of all governments, the total failure in water and power systems (the loss of the internet) will end CoD but we'll have bigger things to worry about.

3) The future scenario.

Advancements in technology make pads, monitors, etc, totally obsolete. Your body is 'plugged-in' (or just your brain perhaps) and you are literally immersed in the game. While you're in the game it becomes your world.

Games will become so realistic that they will carry serious health warnings and a significant risk of losing your mind.

*If anyone thinks I'm exaggerating, I'd be happy to elaborate.

Compare Pacman to CoD.

CoD will become Pacman in time.

So CoD (or the CoD-like game) will be around for a while yet, it will inevitably die but it will go with a bang not a whimper.

Whatever the reason, it will be awesome but not necessarily in a good way (meteor hitting Earth = not good).

But we probably won't be around to see it anyway - happy days.

I dont want it to die any time soon you made me laugh whilst I was reading this but I really believe your right it'll take a nuclear war or something to end the franchise any time soon

It'll be the future tech scenario I reckon, when games become so realistic that we can't tell the game from real life...

It won't be a bad thing though, we'll stop playing CoD because we'll all be playing 'Drunken Victoria's Secret Show Casting Couch'
