MIPS the Bunny
Hello, I was wondering if there is anyway to put a username and password on the router (and if there is not currently, will there ever be)? Also I heard that you can use any VPN provider, however in the drop down menu it only lists hide my ass. I currently have a subscription to Airvpn, however when I enter the information it will not allow me to connect. Am I doing something incorrectly, or should I just go ahead and get a hide my ass subscription? As far as DDos is concerned will they still be able to effectively overload whatever VPN server you are on; thus forcing you to disconnect, and connect to another (or does the VPN server company have measures in place to prevent that from happening)? Is there anyway to prevent DDoS locally with hardware or software? I have found commercial solutions but the price is ridiculously high. Is there a way to detect when a DDoS it is happening (or rather who is doing it) and block them either by IP address or through the normal GUI? For example someone in game that is blatantly bragging about doing it. So that you could block them, leave, and never have to play with them again. The device is great for filtering hosts, but since you cannot identify the players how can you block them? I suppose you could just block them in game, that would probably work. I realize the actual DDoS traffic will not originate with the attacker, but is there anyway to detect abnormal traffic patterns and prevent it? Is there a way to force an ISP to change your static IP address? Will they do it if you just ask? The next question is fairly straight forward: I know that in previous call of duty titles there was lag comp, is there in blops III? If so do the methods of combating it work the same as it did in previous titles? Is it possible to geo-filter multiple devices with different areas. For example limit one PC to a 500 km radius and limit another to 1000? Does/ will the device support 5Ghz wireless? I appreciate any information pertaining to any or all of those questions. Sorry for the long post, MIPS
Netduma Staff Netduma Crossy Posted December 29, 2015 Netduma Staff Share Posted December 29, 2015 Hey MIPS On the latest version you can password protect the user from Settings >> Miscellaneous. If you use the advanced section of the VPN you can enter the Open-VPN config file from your provider. You can then enter your username and password and connect. Depends how much they are DDoSing with and how much bandwidth the VPN server has available. I wouldn't rely on the server staying up. The main purpose is just to keep your IP hidden so you can get back online ASAP. There isn't any software or hardware. If they can flood you with more packets than your connection can handle, you'll go down (which is what using a VPN prevents as it's the server's connection which goes down and their IP that the attacker has). There isn't a way to block a player from connecting to your lobby using the Netduma unless they are host (for CoD, othyer games may be different). Even if you could detect the abnormal traffic, your connection would still be flooded. So even if the router was able to detect it and just dropped the bad packets (not sure if that is really possible), I don't believe it would help as your line is still flooded. (I could be wrong about this part). If you tell them you're getting DDoSed, they will probably change it for you. There is lag comp in every good online game. The current hardware doesn't have 5Ghz - only new hardware could support it. Hope this helps
