Ah good to know. Glad i'm all setup. By the way new firmware seems solid from my testing.
-
So I set this up.. well whenever the R3 came out. Just want to check myself and make sure I have it configured optimally. I have the R3 at one end of my house connect to my ISP directly. I then have an ethernet cord running from my R3 to my XR1000 and have the XR1000 setup in Wireless AP mode. Currently I have both routers using the same name hoping my devices swap seamlessly if I move around my house like on my phone/ laptop. Is this the best way to do it? or should I have independent network names? or Should I be configuring this some other way? Also does anybody know if the XR1000 is just abandoned with firmware? I guess it doesn't matter if it's just in Wireless AP Mode? Sad though

Been awhile, thought i'd check back in. May I please be added to the beta testing group

Right, so I have to use my default DNS on my router through my Service Provider? So I'm better off setting up Next DNS on each of my devices in the meantime? Fraser ! next update going to be ages away, get the devs to chuck this feature in
-
So was just tinkering as I do and want to setup NextDNS on my router. I have changed the IPv4 address to NextDNS pretty straightforward, but notice that there is nowhere to change IPV6 DNS Address? Is it located somewhere else or am I being silly or not understanding something?

Okay great well in that case might give it a while without my browser blockers and see how it goes. I have YouTube premium so no need for Adblock. Do people use YouTube and skip ads without premium? I’ll have to look into that could save myself a fortune each month haha

Been enjoying the latest. update, but was curious if somebody could take the time to explain the Adblock feature. I use ad-guard on my apple devices and ublock origin on windows OS. Does this work similar to Brave browser where it prevents ads and popups before the browser level Adblock add-on would? like just stop it loading and speeds up my browser? would love clarification on how it works exactly and does this mean I can get rid of my other Adblock as they are redundant? Also noticed it breaks my appletv but I live in Aus and its when im trying to watch livetv so thats fine I turned it off on that device. Does it slow the router down or any negative side effects? Cheers

OMG I am such a dummy. I just mis-read what you were saying. I flashed my firmware last night and wanted to take another look at this so called phantom device. So this time it showed up as my chromecast device which was connected to my XR1000 in AP mode. But I have the same wireless names. So indeed anything connected to my XR1000 shows up as a Lan connection. It would be cool if they could modify the interface at one point to show it being connected off the actual AP device appose to a wired connection which it isn't.... @Netduma Fraser Any chance this could be achieved as a low priority feature requested for a future update? or is it a limitation of being connected to an AP. So you were indeed 100% correct. I now have everything named and identified correctly - case closed. Also to avoid creating a new thread. Though I can if that's appropriate. Annoying most of my devices are connecting to my XR1000 due to it simply having stronger and faster connection practically anywhere in my house. But since it's a great router It does lead me to another follow up question, I have my xr1000 in AP mode downstairs other end of my house, the R3 in my office for the other half. As I understand it. A device in AP mode essentially passes all the traffic back to the R3 for it to process. As we have seen the R3 if you have a lot of devices can eat into the available CPU power quite a bit. Since the XR1000 is a powerhouse hardware wise. Would I be better off taking it out of AP mode and letting the devices in my garage be handled by it? For example have a bunch of my wife's "smart appliances, we had to buy" in the garage connected to my XR1000 and a chromecast etc for the guest bedroom tv. Just wondering if I could set it up so both devices operate off same wifi name. Enabling my WiFi devices to connect to the nearest/fastest AP. However balance the workload by letting them both operate and handle network traffic? My gaming PC most important in the house is Ethernet to R3 so it doesn't effect me at all. Also Are you supposed to DMZ another router that's acting as an AP? Like should I DMZ my XR1000? - Sorry learning so much about networking stuff through this forum so figured why not ask.

It's really not a big deal. I know it's kind of an experimental feature but having the ability to toggle which devices it runs on/ off is great and solved my issue. I did have another question regarding how it works though as I couldn't find the specific information. I'll keep looking but. Most people run adblockers on their devices/ browsers. So for example I know brave has an adblock built in at it's core level to stop ads from loading in the first place. Does this work in a similar way except just at the router/ network level meaning my browser would no longer block the ad? I assume that's how it would function which is cool. Additionally, I use Ublock which obviously has a list of blocked things and the way it works. Does Netduma create it's own or are you utilising an existing adblock service for this feature?

The update seems to have installed and worked alright. I am seem to be having an issue with ping optimiser/ buffer bloat like several people here. One thing i have noticed. If I manually set my speeds and turn off bypass and enable always on. My connection isn't shaped at all. Not sure if I need to hit apply somewhere but I can't see a button to do so. Also getting B scores in waveform. If I set it to auto it sets at 99%dl/100% upload which seems off to me. But I can't manually test it because it doesn't seem to respond to the values I manually input. I tried to do 60% I do have 1000/50 connection speed. Which in reality is 940/47 but when I manually set connection to say 75% I still get 940/47 Kind of cramming two things in here. But if I want to use cloudfare DNS is this the correct way to set that up?

Just updated to version v4.0.40 I have been fortunate with this update. It installed flawlessly, fixed CPU errors, reduced ping on multiple fronts and my jitter, and download speeds and bufferbloat all seem to be performing on par if not better then my XR1000 so hat off to the team managing to address so many bugs in such a short time period well done. I can also report that my Wifi speeds have gone from 350 mb average to around 550mb still not perfect but I'll definitely take that as a win for now considering there was no mention of anything addressing this it could simply just be the CPU performing better. Anyway I know there have been others posting various things regarding the Adblock feature. I just wanted to report a bug so hopefully when the dev team gets around to looking at it might be something they can look into. Since I got the router my AppleTV has been buffering, pausing, or straight just stops playing content or gets disconnected. I didn't think this was a router issue and troubleshooted everything else to no avail. However I noticed quite a few things being blocked on my AppleTV through the adblock. I just turned this feature off and have enjoyed watching things on it for 5+ hours no issues. This is not a primary issue as it's simply fixed by just disabling adblock on that device but I still wanted to report it while the feature is being developed/ improved. @Netduma Fraser

what program or website did you use here? curious to test myself.

Port Forward Confusion/ possibly not working? - Palworld

Okay sorry for wasting your time XD I will put my hand up and say I was a complete numpty. I got it working on both routers. It wasn't a router issue or a network issue it was 100% a user issue. I made a stupid mistake of trying to get people to connect to my local IP not my public IP. I feel so dumb and embarrassed right now but people can connect to the server so that would mean that the port forward is working correctly. Anyway just wanted to say thanks for the help and sorry for being stupid haha. Learn something new everyday Re networking I guess haha. -

Port Forward Confusion/ possibly not working? - Palworld

Okay so I tried messing around with port ranges and changed the rules around to test. My friend still can't connect and gets a timeout to the server. In addition. If I go to sites like: https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ https://portchecker.co/ https://www.portcheckers.com/ When I check those sites they are all reporting the ports are closed. I'm not sure how accurate they are in terms of testing open ports or if there are other tools recommended by the community I could use to test ports being open. But for the life of me I can't figure this out. I normally just plug in the ports I want forwarded and bobs your uncle but in this case not sure it's actually working. Would appreciate any help want to play this game. -

Haha god I don't know how you manage to answer so many questions and provide so many solution you work hard Fraser!. I really do appreciate the help and support you offer. Sorry a little off topic but really do want to give you a shoutout for your hard work man. It's been awhile since I port forwarded, I'll make that adjustment to the source range in the morning. -

Oh so it’s more a visual bug? hmm not quite sure how to answer that. I’m in Australia where we have NBN boxes which are effectively the modems. There is no way to interface or connect with it. It has no adjustability like that. however it has never given me issues previously. -
Hoping somebody has already played around with these settings, I don't normally have any issues with port forwarding or if I do I simply input the ports and it works as I am often the one who hosts dedicated servers in my friend group. I am setting up a dedicated server for myself and some mates with the new game - 'Palworld' which requires port 8211 to be open. However I believe I have correctly setup everything on my end, my mates are having difficulty connecting to the server with a timeout issue which I believe is a result of ports not properly being forwarded. After I created the rules I am getting 'Inactive' when I review the rules I have created. I have taken a screenshot for reference but I was hoping somebody may be able to assist with this?

Ah okay, I am not too familiar with the MTU so I’ll have to do some googling. I use IPv6 currently so I assume it’s best just to leave this setting in default.
-
Hi, I assume this is optimised by default but I was wondering what the max value for MTU is for the R3 and if that would potentially help or solve any throughput issues via WiFi performance? It's one of the few remaining settings I haven't tinkered with yet. Can't find much information regarding this particular units value range for this setting.
-
i'll have a go.
-
Right, well yeah just looked now it says google but it's not a 1:1 match. It's okay it's not a big deal have other issues that are more pressing. I will disconnect my XR1000 later and see if both dissapear it's just a strange bug.

it's different to the XR1000 they both have their own unique mac address
