Frasor, this is exactly what was happening to me 2 weeks ago prior to you having me upgrade the firmware. (Beta firmware) -
Downloaded and upgraded the software. It seemed to work for a few hours, but then began having issues again. Tried resetting the router (not a factory reset) but still experiencing slow or intermittent disconnects on the wifi. Also tried running ping optimizer and speed test and none of them work. Just a constant loop of "starting speed test" and "running ping optimizer" but nothing starts.

Looks like latest firmware. (Its in the pic) Also I just noticed the 2G and 5G bands aren't showing up. After a while it appears (2G and 5G) but it just disappears randomly. (Like shown in the pics)

I’ve been using the R3 for a couple of months now and have noticed, compared to the XR500 I had previously, there’s been more disconnects and seemingly more issues with this router. For example, as soon as I start gaming (which is hardwired with ethernet) my wireless devices (phones, smart tv, etc.) start losing connection or acting weird. This is with smart boost enabled. I’ve tried with both on and off and pretty much experience the same issue. It’s like my PC just completely takes over and everyone streaming etc suffers. At least with the XR500 I could distribute a certain amount of bandwidth to whatever device needed it, but with the R3 as soon as I start gaming, everything “wirelessly” suffers. Not sure what else to do.

Yes that worked. Ping plotter is still all over the place and not stable though. On the waveform bufferbloat test I got an A+. What ip address should I ping to ping plotter?

@DARKNESS Thanks for your response and all the info. I appreciate it! Tried to do a factory reset through the interface but it still didn’t work. It just logged me back in as normal. I’ll try the methods you mentioned. Thanks!

I’m trying to Factory reset my R3. It seems to have gone haywire! My ping is out of control, (ping optimizer isn’t working and is around 68 from 21-23) and my download speeds aren’t even close to what they should be. Now I will say, I just set up Comcast business internet from residential. My speeds before I upgraded were, 942 down 42 up on avg. With the business upgrade, my speeds are 1,476 down 355 up. (This is without the router) When I use the router, my speeds dip to 820 down or lower but the upload is pretty much the same. Also, each device on WiFi have terrible signals and I’m getting constant signal drops from the devices (whether it’s close or not to the router). What should I do?

I’m trying to factory reset my router, but it doesn’t seem to be doing it. Keeps going back to how it was already set up. Tried pushing the reset for 30 sec but it’s not back to factory settings.

I no longer have the XR500, I only have the R3 now. But no I don’t believe I had it in AP mode.

Ping has been 21-23. Used to be an average of 16-19.

Netgear CM2000 Modem. (It is plugged up the same way as my XR500 was..no bridge mode or anything. Is there settings I need to change inside the Modem?) Yes, All devices are connected to the R3. I pay for 1200 mbps Down and 40 Up. My speeds are pretty much the same as my on my previous XR500. (942 down, 42 up) But I would like to mention, when I connect directly into the modem, my speeds are around 1270-1300 down and 50-60 up! This is ran consistently with multiple speed tests. I ran the optimized test at the setup process and it showed 942 down 42 up. I set up congestion control. Didn’t make a significant difference to ping. (I think XR500 had a better outcome) Not sure how to set up smart boost. I read the instructions in the setup process and set it based on what it says for gaming. Call of Duty MWIII Playing on PC but set my device as a console. (PlayStation) I think I saw somewhere on YouTube someone mentioned the R3 works better set as console rather than as a PC. Said it needs more work. But I may try it anyway..at the moment it’s set as a console. It is connected via Ethernet cable. (CAT8) Geo-filter is set up and added as a console. **Even as I wrote this, my phone is buffering and experiencing intermittent issues both on this site, and buffering on YouTube.**

I went ahead and bought the new R3 but it seems I’m having worse wireless speeds (to my devices) and worse hit detection and lag in games (on PC) than my previous XR500 router. I’ve tried it for about a week, made sure I set it right etc, but maybe I need to tweak it a certain way? I’ve tried the steady ping, but it reminds me of the early “bufferbloat” issues the XR500 had when it first came out. When using it, gameplay seemed worse, and having it off it seemingly worked much better. My bufferbloat score did improve quite a bit since buying this router. So far, this is the only thing that is positive at the moment since purchasing this router. Any help would be appreciated to optimize this to get better results. Thanks!

Connected via Ethernet. I tried accessing through routerlogin.net. When I tried 192.168.1.1, it now works. I wonder why? -

I checked and Yes they both match. I even just did a factory reset and still not working. -
Earlier last week, the geo filter was working on my XR500 (while playing COD), but now it is no longer working at all. Servers aren’t showing up, my location isn’t showing in the geo filter, and it’s connecting me to games as if the filter isn’t on at all. I’ve tried restarting the router and modem, deleting the device, re syncing the cloud and re adding the device, (like previous methods) nothing has worked. What should I do?

I tried the methods and my speeds are still being throttled. As an update, since I first tried these methods, I also found out that even when I directly hardwire into my modem, I still get the same low speeds. (But it’s only my download speeds) I’m wondering if it has something to do with my registry settings or something on my PC? -

I’m running Xfinity speed test as well as Ookla speed test. Not sure about congestion control set. How can I check that? -

The modem is Netgear Cm2000v. It’s just connected to my PC through Ethernet. So I should be getting my normal speeds. -
For some reason, I’m no longer getting my typical download speeds. (940 down 42 up) I disabled QOS, updated network drivers, but I’m only getting half my speeds. I contacted my service provider first and everything was good on their end. Any suggestions? Also “side question: on my XR500, is V2.3.2.134-dumaos33-rc14 the latest firmware? Or is there a different beta version or later firmware? Thanks!

Is it significantly better than the XR500 I’m currently using or should I just stick with what I have?
