Hello, I just set up my VPN server on the router, installed openvpn on my android phone, added the certificate from the router, but it never connects tot he vpn. Am I missing something? How would I troubleshoot this issue?

Usually in this scenario you have to port forward the ports on the upstream router if you have one to allow the ports shown on the VPN Server page, have you done that?

If you're having Settings or Hardware issues with the XR500 please go here and login to get the number for Netgear's 24/7 support line: http://support.netgear.com/

I only have the xr500, I am not sure what an upstream router is. My xr500 is directly connected to my cable modem.

If you refresh the VPN Service page after applying is it still enabled? I can't get to the point to try and reproduce the issue. I would recommend logging in here: http://support.netgear.com/and calling the 24/7 Support Line that it gives you. The Settings are made by Netgear so they would be better suited to helping resolve any issues in that department.
