Speed VS. Quality

As far as internet is concerned, which have you found to be better for gaming, specifically BO3?

Lately I've been reading posts about people inputting lower internet speeds than they are paying for and other posts about bufferbloat and quality.

Just today I started some testing to get an A for BB and quality. I found a setting that gives me an A for both. Ran the test again after opening another window on my browser and both went down. Seems that it's sensitive to Internet use.

Anyways, I left my settings where I found an A for both BB and quality, powered up my PS4 and started gaming. For the 6-7 games I played, it was a whole different gaming experience from what I've had with BO3. Hit detection was spot on, hardly any hit markers, killed enemy with 3,4,5 bullets. I was getting killed with the same amount of bullets so it seems like all was fair. This was about 10AM pst so most kids were in school.

As for my speeds, ran a wired speed test this AM, I was at 18/1. My speeds are nothing compared to what some have here.

Hopefully things stay the way they are. Lately it seems I find settings that work and then the next day all of it changes.

what are you refering to?

lowering the connection speed via R1 router?

lowering the connection speed via ISP?

both will work but from my experience in a different way

i have 18 down 1 up but when im polled at this connection my internet is a bit unstable which is why my ISP and me went for a reduction down to 15-16 down

my ping is much better now and no jitters + internet cutouts when im running on maximum bandwidth

as for the R1 connection lowering this will reduce the ping spikes youll get from other devices being connected to the internet

Iain wrote a great article about it in the netduma wiki, right now the best value is to set your congestion control to both 70% since thats the sweet spot between smooth ping and sufficient speed

with the update after the upcoming one the R1 will allow you to keep your speed at 100% and still have no lag spikes from other devices, something im really looking forward to actually :)

What I've seen is people inputting lower speeds via the R1.

As for the sliders, what I've found that works for me is no where near 70/70. That gave me an A for BB, but F's for quality and speed.

I can't say that the testing for BB and quality were the main reason for the smoother game as I also upgraded the firmware. Maybe the combination of both did the trick, I have no clue because it seems things change day to day.

I'm about to get back on the PS4 here shortly and I'll be able to report whether it's still smooth or it all went to crap! With all the things that have gone wrong lately, I'm not holding my breath.

On the flip side, with the new firmware, I have not gotten any hosts outside of the GEO filter with PA set to zero. Hopefully that has been taken care of.
