NETGEAR regularly releases new firmware versions to improve performance and add features. To ensure that new features are available on your router, make sure that your router is running the latest firmware.

If you need to update the Firmware on your XR500 Nighthawk Pro Gaming Router your best resource is the NETGEAR Support Knowlege Base article.

To update the Firmware on the Nighthawk Pro Gaming Router XR500:

  1. Download the firmware for your router from the NETGEAR Download Center, save it to your desktop, and unzip the file if needed.
  2. Using a computer that is connected to your router using an Ethernet cable, launch a web browser from a computer.
Note: Do not use a computer that is connected wirelessly to the router to upload the firmware. A wireless firmware update might corrupt the router’s firmware, rendering it useable.
  3. Enter http://www.routerlogin.net.
    A login window opens.
  4. Enter the router admin user name and password.
The user name is admin. The password is the one that you specified the first time that you logged in. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
    The Dashboard page displays.
  5. Click Settings > Administration > Firmware Update.
  6. Click the Browse button, then locate and select the file that ends in .img on your desktop.
Be careful not to select the wrong file.
  7. Click the Upload button to upload the firmware file.
    The firmware is updated.
