tlreese77
I cannot get VPN to work. I purchased a subscription with HMA just to make it easier, but no matter what I try I continuously get the 5 second timeout (retrying in 5 seconds). I know the address I am trying to connect to is legit, since I can connect with the HMA application on my computer. But whatever I try on the router, nothing works...just a consistent 5 second timeout error. Help
Guest Netduma_Iain
HI tlreese, Firstly if you have not done so already I'd recommend upgrading: http://wiki.netduma.com/doku.php?id=manual_update Then just type in the location of a server near you in the Server box. Type in your username/password. Remember this is the username/password you use to login into the HMA website. Tick enable and click app;y and you should connect. tlreese77
Thanks for the response. Updated but still nothing. Does distance matter? I am in Japan and trying to connect to a US server. I don't know I am just constantly getting the retrying in 5 seconds error message. I tried New York, LA, the one in Australia. Don't know if I am doing something incorrectly. Guest Netduma_Iain
Ok mate I think I've seen this before, I think that paticular server may not be running anymore. Can you try connect to the server "UK.London_LOC1S10.TCP.ovpn" its the first one that appears when you type in London. I've just tried connecting to it on my router and it worked, does it work on yours? If so then we can try pick another server that is closer to you Finally how did you get the router in the Japan, given that we don't sell there
tlreese77
Tried the London server, but still failing. Wed Mar 18 03:28:01 2015 TCP: connect to [AF_INET]173.208.89.26:443 failed, will try again in 5 seconds: Connection timed out Wed Mar 18 03:28:16 2015 TCP: connect to [AF_INET]173.208.89.26:443 failed, will try again in 5 seconds: Connection timed out I am a US Citizen in Japan, so I had it shipped to an APO address. Guest Netduma_Iain
Its really weird because you seem to be connecting to a different server. Are you sure you're on the latest version 1.03.2 and connecting to the London server? Please can you take a screenshot of your VPN basic page when you try connect please. Awesome, living in Japan is really cool!
tlreese77
it appears my VPN is trying to connect every 5 seconds, but I am not sure. The VPN log just seems to go on forever. Attached is the screen shot you requested. I do have the most recent update installed.
tlreese77
And also getting this now.
Guest Netduma_Iain
Ok this is definitely the same error another user had. I actually updated the wiki a while back: http://wiki.netduma.com/doku.php?id=common_vpn_errors&s[]=communicate I think its a combination of picking servers that are down and the anti-viruse,adware or firewall blocking it. Please let me know if those fixes help please
tlreese77
I am running a MacBook Pro so not running any Anti-virus, and I can connect to those servers through the App on the computer.

tlreese77
Firewall was already off, so turned it on and tried, same. Turned it off again and tried...still the same issue.
Guest Netduma_Iain
Ok I'm still suspicious that the selected server is down, because you had a different remote IP than me. Can you try pasting the following into advanced section then using your same username/password. http://pastebin.com/82UA4pWn If that doesn't work is it possible something further down the line is blocking it? You said you're on an army base right? If that doesn't help we can schedule a time to try fix 1 on 1.
tlreese77
I tried that but still failing...this appears to be an issue. In the VPN log it looks like it is continuously trying to connect, even when I am not initiating it. I have the same error for every 5 seconds since March 17 till now. And right now is the first time I have tried using VPN today but i still have these fail logs from when I was at work. I live on the Economy, not on a military base. Guest Netduma_Iain
Ahh ok, this is the confusing part tlreese why are you trying to connect to "173.208.89.26:443". I still think you're trying to connect to a server that does not exist. In the pastebin I posted you should be trying to connect to 77.75.123.187:443. Did you try put the pastebin in the advanced config like I mentioned above? Btw that pastebin is referecning the london server. I'm almost certain you're trying to connect to a HMA server that has been taken down.
tlreese77
I tried the paste bin, but no matter what I do it is still trying to connect to that dead site.

Guest Netduma_Iain
There is a retry loop meaning you can't cancel when the server is down. I'll fix in the next version. IN the meantime can you do factory reset & make sure you pick servers like S1 NOT S10 notice server 10 appears before 1. Servers with larger numbers are more likely to be down!
