HappyLittleChap reacted to Netduma Fraser in Where is the new firmware update for XR500?
Cloud update has just been released for the XR500 so you can flush the cloud to get that updated. Then the new firmware will be later this month I believe, we're trying to identify the fix for a disconnect issue some people have been having so I think that is why it has been slightly delayed. Also the VPN Hybrid is undergoing testing now.

Please take this with a pinch of salt as this could all be changed at any time. I believe the next firmware update will be out this month, and does include some of the features that have been requested before.

HappyLittleChap got a reaction from Netduma Jack in Negear XR500 + Wifi Extender EX7300 Help
If the ex7300 does not support Smart Set-up in AP mode you would have to put it in Extender mode and drop the direct LAN cable connection. I have an EX8000 extender but in the end gave up and switched to cables for all my gaming console connections. Even on a uncontested radio spectrum with a 2ms ping to the router and 1ms jitter gaming connections were still not reliable enough. Direct cabling is the way to go if you can.

In that configuration, you'd put the extender in AP mode and then use Netgears Smart Connect feature on both devcies. This will create a roamable single SSID.

Not sure why that would be. I will contact a Netgear developer and see if they can arrange a troubleshooting or at least data gathering session - the timezone would be factor and they may not be able to do it but will see what I can do.

My study is on  the third floor, my router on the ground floor. i have the option to run a cable down the outside of the house and then up through the basement but I'd need to drill through the external walls to feed the cables, did not want to do that.

I have a Netgear ex8000 extender, my console is actually plugged in via a LAN cable to extender. From there it's a wireless bridge to the XR500. To be fair performance is excellent. No spectrum interference, zero packet loss, 2ms ping to the XR500 and 0.5ms jitter. Signal is stable for prolonged periods as measured via Wi-Fi explorer.

All my XR500 issues have been resolved now by Fraser (via new firmware) bar Geo Filtering, can't add new hosts.

    okay, scrap that idea....lol

Relying on wireless is always going to give you bother, especially with gaming. A Hard-wired solution is the only way for reliability.

Is there no way of running a cable from the router to the destination Pc ?

Can you describe your room layout between router and destination pc ? And I wil try and think of something else to help...

my home layout is like this (sounds similar to you). My gaming setup is in my converted garage. Distance is about 70ft of CAT5e. I live in a Bungalow which made things much easier to route cables through walls and corners etc, out to the garage. It had to be done as wireless wasnt an option, and the XR500 signal doesn't reach my garage even though it has only 30ft (in a straight line) to travel. (has 4 walls though to contend with).

Just set to spectating mode for now, it's literally on my task list this week to finish testing the Switch so I'll be able to give you a more informed answer on whether you can properly Geo-Filter with it.

NETGEAR have said that this is not true - restock should be there in a matter of days. They are contacting Amazon to make sure they realise so no-one else is misinformed.

Hi Guys - Netgear have confirmed Amazon.co.uk have the stock, so it’s just the Amazon site that is being slow to update. Hopefully your router will be on its way to you very soon

HappyLittleChap got a reaction from DJ* in New Duma setup - Separate Modem required??
The R1 does not handle PPPoE very well so better to offload that job to your modem. The Vigor and Openreach will not do that. Instead look at the Netgear DM200. It’s only £35 and allows you to easily see the state of your line sync and noise. You can open the modem interface from the R1’s device screen. I had the Vigor but when I switched to the DM200 the line synced to a faster speed.

Absolutely, could you please provide me with these IDs? Then we'll be able to update the cloud.

We can also work with you next week if you're available so that we can do auto detection on the Switch.

Daft question, will the new DumaOS detect Nintendo Switch consoles as an option to configure?

Also, the R1 only had 4 slots for gaming devices. Is DumaOS limited in this respect? I have a 2 PS4's, 1 XBOX and a Switch that has 3 different MAC addresses (two docks and one WiFi connection).

    Thanks

Cheers Fraser. I'm kind of inclined to upgrade to a Netgear router and forgo some of the newer features which I assumes would be introduced to the Netgear in time. Thanks.

HappyLittleChap got a reaction from Stealth_01 in Major Announcement: Netduma partner with NETGEAR to launch the Nighthawk XR500 Gaming Router
I've been looking forward the DumaOS upgrade for a long time but always had a nagging feeling the R1 hardware was not quite up to the job. Therefore, the news Netgear would offer a DumaOS router was very appealing to me. Being in the UK it was frustrating to see the Netgear was not available in the UK but now I see it's marked as coming soon so that is good news.

Now I have a dilemma, in the UK me and just about everyone else bar those on Virgin fibre rely on DSL PPPoE connections. The R1 was never designed to support this and I've been repeatedly told it was patched in as an afterthought. The current PPPoE implementation always seems to be impact available broadband speed. The news of the Netgear meant I could have a DumOS powered router but that was powerful enough to act as the PPPoE client (like every other UK DSL router) but now we leant the Netgear won't have all the features of the R1 come April.

So, do I buy an Netgear XR500, get the new DumaOS (minus some features) or wait and upgrade my R1 in April which may or may not address the PPPoE situation.

These are the config option open to PPPoE DSL connected clients (note I'm suggesting use of other Wi-Fi AP's as the R1 is not very good in that respect and does not support 5Ghz, I'm not suggesting the use of Wi-Fi for gaming just to support all the other devices in a household)

modem > R1 (PPPoE) > Wi-Fi (Router in AP mode) ----- This configuration will experience performance issues as the R1 acts as the PPPoE client.

    modem > Router (Wi-Fi) > R1 -----  In this configuration Wi-Fi clients bypass the R1

modem - Router - R1 - Wi-Fi AP ----- This configuration means using a second router in AP mode and using the first router to only act as a PPPoE client (expensive solution)

modem - Netgear XR500 ----- This config solves all the issues above but may not offer all the features of an upgraded R1come April

@HappyLittleChap, there is no guarantee the PPPoE speed issue can/will be solved by April. The Devs would have to chime in on that one so if that's what you're waiting for it may be a gamble until there's further clarification.

I should think so due to it being most used in Destiny but I can't be sure.

We are separate companies. They would not give someone a discount to a customer who bought a product from an entirely different company.

That kind of Geo-Filtering has been requested before but requires significant work so we'll have to see.

i am not sure of the specifics but it has to do with talktalk having their own equipment on the BT network in the exchanges and your phone number. If you are with talktalk it is done automatically.........Zennon on here who is a mod is well versed on this but don't know if he will reply to this post!
