That does sound like it is blocking properly now as that is what it is supposed to look like so fingers crossed you continue to have a good experience there. It won't be starting until after the 500 beta I think.

You've got it, that's absolutely right. You can use the 700 Geo-Filter completely independent of the Geo-Filter he can use on the 500 so your settings won't affect him and he can get an open NAT too. Just make sure you use the WAN IP from the System Information page on the XR500 and put that into the WAN DMZ on the XR700. If you use the IP you use to access the XR500 interface it won't work.

No that wouldn't be possible, AP mode disables all the features of the router. You could however use it in AP mode (Settings > Setup > Router Mode & switch to AP), his personal devices would appear on the XR700 as though they were directly connected to it and could be controlled from there?
If you're using the Geo-Filter etc then that's not the best option. You could put the XR500 in router mode, then use the WAN IP and put it in the DMZ of the XR700. That should prevent him getting any NAT issues and allow him to use the Geo-Filter and not affect your settings.

If they showed as peers they were probably just misclassified dedicated servers. Really good testing, thank you so much we will definitely look into this and also keep it in mind should anyone else have the same issue.
Regarding the ping question you asked - we are overhauling that area anyway so expect there to be improvements there in the future. Those improvements might even fix the issue as well.

That is some good detective work there thank you very much. It does seem to lean towards auto ping being an issue there, do let us know how you get on and I'll inform the devs. I'm not actually sure on the reason that is to be honest, I'll ask!

Thanks for trying that. Yes you can certainly try that. We'll definitely need to implement a fix on this though so we'll need to investigate, you've been very helpful on this!

That would be great thanks, it's certainly possible yes, try it just using the radius with PA 0 and see if the same happens.

Up until that point I thought it was working as per described. So I am assuming it was denying connections.
I will monitor it and see if there is a pattern, for example on the XR500 it was allowing denied peers and dedicated servers, this one was a dedicated server. When/if it happens again I will take a screenshot again, and if its a dedicated server again I'll let ya know, also if its a peer!!
I'm praying that this is just a wee glitch and it will sort itself out!!
Just thinking, could it be because I was basically using ping to find lobbies, and this server was within that rule, so it overruled the deny?? It was the first time I had positioned myself in the ocean and used ping since I got the XR700!!
I will keep it like that for a few days and see if it happens again, and then do a few days as per the usual geo filter profile for call of duty and putting my location over home area, just to see if it happens again while set up one way or other! Hope that made sense

    Silence is defening 'sigh'
Away for work again on Thursday so doubt anything will get sorted now!

On another note a mate was able to join my lobby, which in previous versions couldn't happen without me first expanding the geo circle and adding him to the allow list. Has this also changed

    Faith is completely gone now.
Done everything asked of me in this thread, less the refresh of firmware!
So decided the best way to test if it is working was to do something that I tried ages back when I got it to see iff it done what it said on the tin!!
So I put the geo filter to smallest setting and placed my location into the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and then put ping assist to 0, strict mode enabled...this in the past got me zero games. Hell one time I went for a number 2 and came back and still had no game with these settings. As an extra I deleted all the list in the allow/deny so I had a blank canvas.
So settings into router, left for at least a couple of minutes, then turned PS4 on, and booted Modern Warfare up.
Now I expected to get no games, but not now though!!! Yep got into a game reasonably quick, about 15-20 secs with a ping of 37, Germany going by the map.....and before the question comes, no fast search was not ticked.
If someone can explain why, in a common sense way, I managed to get into a game from the middle of the ocean with ping assist set to zero, with strict mode on then my faith may be slightly lifted but as it stands I doubt anyone can now convince me this thing is working.
As it stands it looks to me like the software, which worked pretty flawlessly with the R1, is not working with  my xr500......though it did, now it seems to be doing diddly squat, and of course netgear are not known for their support, once they have your hard earned cash.....well hmmm.....and this cost some good hard earned cash

I'm at the end of my tether with this router!!
Keeps dropping internet connection......and yes on the latest firmware.
Keeps putting me onto servers/peers that have already been denied.....the whole point of this thing.
And support from netgear and here netduma is trying at best....
Its not like this router was cheap and nasty......it was a premium price and I only got it because the R1 was so good.
Time for a re-think on routers, as this one has been 90% grief and 10% great and when its great it is great, sadly too much the other way

    @Netduma Fraser
No probs finding of games now, though before my mate refreshed firmware via tftp it did nothing, as could still get in games...so at least I know that's fixed.
Now to put PS4 into rest mode, put settings back to what it was, leave a couple of mins and reboot console, and see what happens....will update if I end up in denied servers again!

Open the option menu on the Geo-Filter Map panel and then just drag the Ping Assist slider to 0. Also make sure fast search is unticked. Do this while the console is completely off, wait two minutes and then boot up the console/game.

@GuildersYou can try a new modem and see if that does anything for you. But something tells me the only hope for this to get corrected wont be until a new firmware comes out. If the new modem works and fixes your issue then great! If not one will have to wait and hope the next new firmware corrects these odd issues or at least addresses these issues.. Good luck!
    Zippy.

Yeah that's been stopped, if it was a P2P game and you were host it could be used to boot people out of games so it would be considered cheating. Once the connection is severed - usually takes a few mins - then it will be blocked so if you've blocked something it's best to wait a few minutes before searching again.

Okay let us know how you get on with that. One of my suggestions would be to remove all the servers you've denied/allowed and add them again from scratch, as if there were some added from a previous firmware they may not work on the latest, found that once before - not sure if that is what is happening here but worth a try.

I find I get connections to denied connections if I have previously connected to them at some point.  To fix it I have to clear cache on console by hard resetting, then make sure their are no connections when I turn on the router, then put it in filtering.  The only issues I ever have are when there must be some permissions stored in a cache somewhere.

Well to log into BT you could use the home hub as a modem, or set PPPoE up on an upstream device.
It's not ideal, i'm just saying that it has occasionally been known to cause issues. It might not be causing any problems in this case.

It's also possible the modem chipset is causing the drop outs
    The vigor 130, bthomehub 5,dm200
all use the lantiq vrx200 which can be problem on some lines
If you can get hold of one try using a modem with a broadcom chipset such as the
     TD-W9970
