NetDuma R1 stopped talking to BT Home Hub 5

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I purchased my NetDuma router shortly after they were first released and it worked perfectly up until yesturday evening when I was surfing the web and my internet connection randomly dropped. At first, I assumed that it was a problem at my ISP's end so I left it and went to bed, assuming that the problem would have been resolved by the morning. I came home from work today to find that the issue was still present so I did some investigation. It turns out that the internet connection is fine when I connect directly through my modem/router (BT Home Hub 5) but not through the NetDuma R1 (the R1 itself can't even connect as the updates feed loads generic text). Furthermore, the hub doesn't list the R1 as being part of the network.

I've tried:

1.) Hard resetting both the R1 and the hub.

2.) Switching which port the R1 was using on the hub.

3.) Updating the R1 firmware from 1.02.2 to 1.03.4.

4.) Restoring the R1 to factory settings.

The setup was working up until yesturday and I've changed nothing to cause this problem so I'm at a loss at what the issue may be. Any ideas?

Thank you for your remarkably fast reply.

The main light is blue (as it always is). There is a red symbol lit that appears to be an antenna. However, I believe this simply indicates that the wireless has been disabled (which it has).

I can assure you that the internet connection is stable from the hub, as that it the one I am submitting this from (as well as the fact the hub states it is connected).

No internet via the R1 through either wired or wireless.

I think the key thing to note here is that the hub doesn't even recognise the R1 as being connected. It's as if it's not physically connected, but it most certainly is.

I just tried a using different ethernet cable but that didn't do the trick.

Unfortunately, I've only got the one hub.

Surely if my computer can connect via the hub, that must mean the problem lies with the R1?

Ah, sorry, somehow I missed that :)

Yeah, it would suggest a problem with the Netduma. When you have the problem, if you go to the Device Manager, is there a number after 'WAN IP'?

When I clicked "apply", the page refreshed and the text "'radio0' is disabled Interface wan not found" was displayed at the top of the page. The R1 does seem to have saved the IP settings but sadly the hub still does not pick it up.

I've been unable to get any internet traffic through the NetDuma since it cut out on me last night. Up until that point, it pretty much worked plug and play.

The DHCP range on the hub is set to the default of "192.168.1.64" to "192.168.1.253". I'm not too familiar with how DHCP and static IPs work together. Are you able to specify an IP address outside of the DHCP range ("192.168.1.50" in the case of your instructions)?

I managed to get it working! The subnet of the R1 must have defaulted to 1 after I updated the firmware and/or restored the factory settings. This obviously clashed with the hub which also uses a subnet of 1.

Curiously enough, the R1 was using the subnet 88 when it cut out on me so I'm not sure what the original problem was. Also, the hub is still not listing the details of R1 but it does show something connected:
