Wan Issue

Recommended Posts

I'm having a issue with my WAN not giving full link speed it's suck at 100Mbits.

I had this issue a few day's back & spent hours troubleshooting. Trying all the normal steps. Even did a factory reset! Still it was stuck.

Right as I was going to give up I unplugged the WAN ( for the millionth time ) connected it back & it went back to 1000Mbits.

A few days passed & everything was great until the issue came back!

The only thing I changed after a day or so of uptime was DNS.  I didn't look & see if it caused my issue right away so I can't be sure if the DNS change caused the issue.

Sense the issue came back I've done all the normal steps again.

I haven't factory reset again because it didn't fix the issue the first time.

Connecting the Modem direct to my Pc gives me my normal internet speed & windows shows 1G as per normal.

I'm at a total loss as to get the R2 to give me full WAN again.

Any ideas?

Hi

Does sound like a cable issue, do you have another spare cable to check in case the new cable has an issue.

I've tried a few different cables.

Old & new.

When I say I spent hours messing around trying to get it fixed I'm not joking!

I tried every major thing I could think of.

Again I think changing the DNS caused the issue.

Don't ask me how.

I agree it doesn't make sense.

* Things I've tried

New cables

Old cables

Rebooting R2

Rebooting Modem

DNS settings back to stock

Custom DNS back to the way I had it

QOS set to never

QOS disabled

AD Blocker Disabled

AD Blocker Enabled

Factory Reset

When this happened the other day & it started working again it was just one of those things were I had no Idea what I did to fix it but I was glad it worked again.

I need the random luck that got it working right the last time.

Hopefully it's a bug or fluke in the matrix ( & not a bad R2 ) because other than this random issue I'm in love with the R2 & my experience thus far has been amazing!

It could be a software issue, we do have ticket on it but only 2 people I think have ever actually legitimately had it happen due to a bug. I can get a dev to remote in if you enable remote support in WAN Settings but this wouldn't be until Monday at the earliest.

Sounds good.

I might just be super unlucky.🤷

I'll keep messing with it over the weekend.

See if it comes back again.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Did some more testing this morning.

I reinstalled the stock firmware. During boot it did lock to 1000Mbits for a second before reverting back.

Factory reset using pin.

Still didn't stay locked.

Reinstalled latest firmware.

Pin reset.

Tested a few more cables I had laying around.

Is there anything else I can try?

Could it be a faulty WAN port?

I don't mind waiting until the next work week for the team to take a look.

Just had some free time to mess around.

There is nothing you can really do because there isn't any specific settings that can affect that value so I think it's best for the dev to take a look when they can. Then they can see if it's software related or maybe hardware. If it was hardware though I'd expect it to just not work completely. Make sure you have remote support enabled in WAN Settings and that you get an Open NAT through devices connected and I'll pass the details over to them.

I'd like to make a video about this process & was wondering what exactly can be done via remote support?

Can you see all my settings?

What about making changes to the router itself?

Will I notice via the logs when someone has connected?

I'm sure you don't wanna give away everything you can do but any incite would be greatly appreciated.

I couldn't help myself & did one last test.

It was recommended to try a cheap network switch in-between the Modem & R2.

The R2 still wouldn't lock to 1000Mbps.

🤞 we can figure this out without an RMA.

Thanks for your time & all the teams hard work.

@KindaBusted no it's nothing like that, they connect to the backend of the router and so can browse the internal files to check for bugs if they know what they're looking for, check the processes such as whether the WAN port is outputting correctly etc. I've chased the dev to see if they can have a look as soon as possible.

Any news from the devs?

Having my speed capped is really annoying.

Downloading games and patches is taking forever.

Sorry for the delay, the dev said he will take a look today for you. I'll get back to you when he has checked it.

The dev can't seem to connect to you, I'm not sure whether your ISP has changed or whether something regarding your NAT setup has changed. Do you definitely have remote support ticked in WAN Settings?

Yes remote support is ticked & has been for days now.

I'm using CloudFlare 1.1.1.3 witch blocks some stuff.

I've set my DNS to 8.8.8.8 let's see if that helps.

I hope so too because this issue is really annoying.

I've tried everything I can think of twice.

It's driving me absolutely nuts.

Been busy today but tomorrow is free and open.

I'll keep a really close eye on the forums so we can figure this out.

Thanks again for your help.

I don't have a DMZ or port forwarding!

Nat is open on Xbox and other consoles & access it ticked.

I'm sitting here refreshing like a madman so we can get this figured out!

The only custom settings I have are DNS is set to Google, a few of my devices are reserved & IPV6 is off on both WAN & LAN.

If your upstream ISP router has a firewall enabled can you disable this please, do you have a pure modem or modem/router? It's possible your ISP may block port 7777 which we need to access you.

I have a Motorola MB8600.

My ISP is Spectrum.

Dunno if they block 7777?!

* Update just checked Spectrum to see if they block 7777 and I don't see it on the list of blocked ports.

If they can't get in what else can we do to solve my issue?
