Today we announced the Netduma R3, powered by DumaOS 4. Welcome to the R3VOLUTION.
The Netduma R3 has a mission of delivering solid hardware for 2023 while also launching with DumaOS technology that you’ve never seen before. It arrives with a lot of firsts for a Netduma router, including WiFi 6 and RGB capabilities.
DumaOS 4 is a major standout that completely revolutionises how you get the most from your home network. Everything from classic features to the UI has been completely revamped, with several newcomer features that will change your game and THE game.
Here’s a breakdown of some highlights from DumaOS 4:
- Geofilter 2.0, a whole new Geofilter solution that works more effectively for virtually any online game.
- SmartBOOST is the brand new evolution of QoS,automatically adjusting to give everything the optimal amount of bandwidth at any given moment.
- Steady Ping heralds the arrival of our long-awaited Anti-Jitter technology (that’s right, it’s finally here). By sacrificing a tiny ping buffer, you ‘lock-in’ a ping that doesn’t fluctuate. Now, every game feels as smooth as the last.
- And more, all in a completely overhauled UI!
This thread acts as both the announcement and discussion thread for the Netduma R3 - ask questions and get as excited as we are!
To answer some of the questions we expect to hear for the R3 and DumaOS 4, we’ve put together some ‘Pre-FAQs’:
Will DumaOS 4 be coming to the Netduma R2 or NETGEAR Nighthawk Pro Gaming routers (XR500/XR700/XR1000/XR450/XR300)?
We fully intend to get DumaOS 4 on the Netduma R2 - we’re expecting this to be a straightforward task so the wait won’t be long. If you own an R2 and would like to be notified when DumaOS 4 is available to you, please enter your email here.
However, for Nighthawk Pro Gaming routers, we have some more unfortunate news: as things stand, DumaOS 4 will not be coming to these units. As you can probably tell, it has been a challenge getting these models onto DumaOS 3.3, for reasons outside of our control. We have been able to get the XR500, XR450 and XR700 onto 3.3 via open beta firmwares. And this week we received an XR1000 firmware from NETGEAR (running DumaOS 3.3) which is going through our internal testing now.
So as things stand right now, the only way to get your hands on DumaOS 4 currently is to purchase a Netduma R3.
How much will the Netduma R3 cost?
We always try to provide good value for the hardware we’re responsible for, and because of that the Netduma R3 is landing with a launch discount, pricing it at $199.99 (exc. VAT) / £179.99 / €199.99. This price point won’t last forever, but we want people who support us early on the benefit from doing so.
What are the Netduma R3 hardware specs?
We worked hard to decide the final spec of the Netduma R3. It has WiFi 6 with really good WiFi coverage across your home (we tested this extensively and it’s a LOT better than the R2), a quad-core CPU and all the RAM and Flash memory we’ll ever need. Our overall aim was to use hardware that was really solid without charging you guys and arm and leg to buy it

Where can I learn more about DumaOS 4?

Will DumaOS 4 arrive on Telstra Optimiser and EE WiFi Enhancer?
Yes, both platforms will be updated with the latest DumaOS features down the road.
Is the R3’s WiFi better than the R2?
We paid special attention to ensuring that the R3’s WiFi performs well, to cover all areas as a solid router for any home. The WiFi specifically in the R3 is Dual-Band Gigabit AX3000, providing a far better WiFi experience than the R2 in terms of range and throughput.
I have pre-ordered. When will my R3 be sent?
We expect routers to arrive in December, and we’ll begin shipping pre-orders as soon as stock arrives on a first-ordered-first-sent basis.
What this means is that while we can’t give a specific shipping date to cover every order, we expect that every R3 preorder will be fulfilled before Christmas.
Can I buy a Netduma R2 instead of a Netduma R3?
The Netduma R2 is now officially out of stock, and we have no plans for renewing the stock.
Has the Netduma R3 been beta tested?
Yes! A selection of beta testers from the forum have extensively tested the R3 and worked with us to make sure it’s great. A huge special thanks to them for helping us (and keeping things quiet until now!)
Does the RGB look cool?
Yes, it looks very cool. But if you are no fun at parties, they can also be turned off 😛

Attention XR450 users!
We're happy to announce the 3.3.535 firmware has made its way over to the XR450 in Open Beta stage.
We're hoping for NETGEAR to run this firmware through their QA process and eventually make it an official release. In the meantime though, you're free to use this as a beta firmware.
3.3.535 adds support for the new DumaOS For Mobile - a flexible view that works in virtually any viewport, with massively improved response times and speed. This is best experienced via the DumaOS app which, as of this firmware, fully integrates the webview format for any platform that supports it.

However, due to an firmware size limit, there is an important one-off step you need to take before moving over to the latest firmware.
Please download the below intermediary firmware, and upgrade your XR450 to it first:
It's important that you DON'T keep your XR450 on this intermediary firmware - there are known issues with it.

Howdy, Lew here - as Fraser said, he passed this message over to me and I wanted to respond with it since, as always, you make some great points that are hard to argue.
I'm not going to try and argue either. I know that isn't what you're looking for here and like you said, when you make content like this, you're just bringing attention to problems that you care passionately about. That passion is something that matters to every single one of us here, so the least I can do in return is explain our side.
Put simply, we really are doing everything we can to provide XR users with the latest and greatest we can offer them. Recently, this has come in the form of beta firmwares - we're glad they're landing well and people are enjoying them. But you're right when you say not everyone knows about them, even if we wish they did! Even in that case, not everyone wants to install beta firmwares for reasons that are totally understandable.
The problem with this is that, as you might already know, we don't really have a say in when those firmwares become ready for full release. That leads to people feeling left behind which, quite frankly, sucks. We want everyone who backs DumaOS to get the most they can possibly get from it. Trust me, you're right - I see the comments. They aren't ignored, and without sounding too dramatic, we feel them. However, as much as we'd love to 'take the reins', its the nature of partnerships; rest assured that we really are doing as much as we can with the reins that we do have.
On the communication front, no debates with what you're saying. I'll organise a meeting to really figure out how to give you guys the information you want, in whatever shape it ends up taking. There's a lot we're excited to share with every DumaOS fan in the near future.

Hi everyone!
First things first - we know this has been a long time coming. You’ve all been incredibly patient in the wait for an XR700 firmware, but we’re hoping that the wait will be worth it.
That said, we’re excited to announce an Early Access firmware for the XR700 that will bring you up to scratch with DumaOS 3.3.

Obviously, this is a HUGE jump from the firmware that the XR700 is currently on, with a massive deluge of new features and ways to use them. While we’re happy to answer any questions on these, here is an overview of the bigger changes:
Webview and Mobile App
Our biggest change to how you use DumaOS comes in the form of DumaOS For Mobile - a flexible view that works across any platform. For XR700 users, this can only be accessed using the DumaOS app available on both iOS and Android platforms.
AutoDPI
This improvement is less visibly obvious, but still has a huge impact on your DumaOS experience: AutoDPI massively opens up the amount of games and services that your router can detect, as well as removing the wait for new firmwares when it comes to supporting new applications.

Other Additions
Of course, the leap to DumaOS 3 includes features such as Ping Heatmap, Adblocker, Connection Benchmark and more too. We have videos on using these features, with full feature tours in DumaOS itself as well.
Of course, there have been multiple fixes and improvements to DumaOS in this update as well - however, due to the sheer number of them, we have omitted their details here for the sake of brevity.
All of us here at Netduma appreciate your support and patience in the lead up to this Early Access release. It’s worth noting that this may never come out as an official XR700 release from NETGEAR, so this may be the only way to get 3.3 on the router. We hope you enjoy everything it has to offer and get the most out of 3.3!

To coincide with the XR700’s Early Access release of DumaOS 3.3, we’re happy to announce that the 3.3.535 firmware for the XR500 has entered Open Beta stage.
This build is expected to go through NETGEAR’s QA process and eventually become an official release for the XR500, but in the meantime you’re free to use this as a beta firmware.

Hi everyone!
Many of you have requested new games and applications to be detected in DumaOS. Thankfully, adding new applications is easier for us to do than ever thanks to our self-learning DPI engine.
What isn't easy is installing all the different programs and games that we receive requests for. Because we sometimes have to wait several hours for a new game to download, the backlog of titles we want to add means a massive bottleneck.
This is where you can really help us make DumaOS better for everyone, and it should only take about 5-10 minutes.
If you have an application or game that you would like us to add, all we need from you is a packet capture. You can do this using a free piece of software called Wireshark; we've included full instructions and a video on how to use it below.
Once we have your capture and put it through our engine, we can test it to ensure the traffic is detected correctly before releasing it to everyone.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Install Wireshark on your computer

(Optional) Disable all but one network interface
- For example, disable wifi and just use ethernet
- This will ensure that the traffic isn't being sent to the wrong place

(Optional) Shut down all applications on your PC other than the one you're trying to capture
- This will make it easier for us to tell your application apart from background noise.
- If your application is a game, have the launcher started but not the game.
- If your application is a media service, have the menu loaded, but do not start the audio/video yet.
- In Wireshark, double click the interface the application will be using. For example, if you're using Ethernet, double click Ethernet, etc

Once packets are appearing in Wireshark, begin to play the game/use the application
- If your application is a game, make sure you get the entire matchmaking process and a few minutes of gameplay.
- If your application is a media service, capture about a minute of activity. We don't want the filesize to become massive.
- After a few minutes, click the Stop button at the top of the screen
- Export/save the capture as a .pcapng file, from the File menu
- Once saved, you can now close the capture
Now upload your capture to this thread. You can attach it directly, or upload it via a shared file service like Dropbox and link it in this thread.
Note: To accurately detect patterns, it's necessary to have at least two captures for each game.
With one capture, we don't have enough data to identify which parts of the capture are constant, and which are transient. This could lead to false positives.
Although not essential, it's also helpful to have captures from different platforms and different game modes. Again, this helps us identify consistencies between all platforms and modes, and disregard data that changes between them.

- Application name:
- Device type used for capture:
- Any other comments:

We’re excited to provide you with the latest firmware for the R2 – DumaOS 3.3.
While it doesn’t bring immediately ‘obvious’ changes like DumaOS for Mobile, DumaOS 3.3 introduces a powerful new addition – our new AutoDPI. This is a big moment for DumaOS, and it means we’ll be supporting new games and applications faster than ever without needing to wait for a firmware update.

DumaOS 3.3 also comes with a plethora of bug fixes as well as plenty of stability and usability improvements.
After extensive testing, we’re confident that DumaOS 3.3 puts the R2 is in a really good place: we hope you enjoy it.

Hi everyone,
As part of future developments, we're looking at the concept of a sub-tray extension for DumaOS; allowing you to make changes to certain settings quickly without opening the full browser version, regardless of what you're doing.To make the sub-tray as useful as possible, we need to know:
- Which features do you use the most?
- Which statistics and data do you regularly use or monitor?
- Which features do you think you would find useful in a Windows sub-tray app?
This could be almost anything - such as changing your Ping Assist setting, running a speedtest from Connection Benchmark, or simply switching an entire Rapp on/off.
So far, here are some of the ideas we've potentially considered:
- Adblocker (Switch On/Off)
- Adblocker Pause
- Traffic Prioritization (Stat Counters, enable rules)
- Speed Test, Ping Test
- Congestion Control
- Bandwidth Allocation
- Ping Graph
I've included an image to give you a better idea of our vision for the sub-tray extension. If you have any ideas on what you'd like to see in this format, let us know.

However, the 'Give Your Response' button is unclickable (all other links are clickable) and when I open the email in my browser, I can click it but it just redirects me to the same email. So perhaps an issue with the email / survey, or something on my end?
