Killhippie reacted to Netduma Alex in ANNOUNCEMENT: DUMAOS 3.0 IS HERE
Hi all, just to let you know that I have hidden sections of this conversation because we got derailed.
If one of your replies got caught in the crossfire, I apologise. I don't like hiding conversation but it was getting out of hand.
    Thanks a lot!

I use this site a fair bit.

    https://www.thinkbroadband.com

they have a line monitor tool just in case it’s that and a fairly good speed test tool. I’m not a fan of DSLreports. I’m on BT and they have a very well known issue that has created havoc on their forum for a long time.
If I’m honest I never used QoS that much when I had the 500 up and running and played a fair bit of Blackout but their servers and that lag compensation drives you mad.

I think what happened was they posted they would make an announcement and then people assumed it was 3.0 and it grew like Chinese whispers.
ive seen comments on YouTube where people have posted that Netgear told them 3.0 is out which as we know is total rubbish but people want to believe it.
I am surprised though with the general lack of interest on the forum, very few posts showing interest.

One thing, if there was a big security hole in the XR500 Netgear would have issued a hotfix like they did with the XR700, do dont take out that on Netgear, security is up to date as of 3 June 2020. Also Netgear can't put out Netduma 3.0 if Netgear don't have it can they? Updates for DumaOS come from Netduma, how would Netgear add Netduma updates if there were none to add?  As to the R1 you are lucky Netduma still support it tbh so really what's the point of getting so upset over a lump of plastic and metal, be grateful its coming to the R1 and anyway its a beta so its not like everyone is going to get it at once. You choose to ditch the XR500 and XR700 so no point in getting upset after the fact. Maybe you should have kept one and waited? As far as software being bad, all router makers have good and and bad points, basically its not worth getting upset over.

That would mess up using say Thinkbroadband's firebrick which monitors your line. Anyone can see a router online because any set of IP addresses which are not visible are either offline or steathed hence the port scans as no reply will mean stealth mode generally. Its all okay and nothing to worry about as everyone gets DoS style attacks in Netgear logs which are paranoid and port scans are very common.

It's likely a bot on the internet scanning for potential open networks. Put the Fritzbox in router mode, put the WAN IP of the XR router found in System Information into the fritzbox DMZ. Then DMZ on the XR will work correctly. You won't have a virus but hypothetically if there was one then yes it would clear it.

@Netduma Alex Because there's a high probability that it's going to have security flaws so I can break into it. You guys haven't released anything in 2 years so far as I can tell. You get post after post about things not working with little to no resolution. This is a professional company? It's pretty absurd the way this works.

If I recall I read somewhere youre based on ddwrt or one of its variants which means you're based on GPL software and are supposed to release your code anyways.

Killhippie got a reaction from Netduma Fraser in Faulty XR500?
If the icon for the modem was dynamic this would be so much easier... It also could be a WAN port failure. Connections to modems do not have to be this complicated, its plug and play 90% of the time  (picking that number out of thin air by the way it could be 99.9% for all I know)

    This one.
In Russian jargon they are usually called white IP. Remove picture with WAN IP.

EOL means end of security patches at a point too, so the router will become vulnerable, like the R7500 which wasn't patched for a serious security issue.

Let’s say it was EOL then I take it the security updates would stop as that’s down the NG to supply them which becomes an issue.

They need to put it on new tech, not like they did with the R1 was which an old $30 routerboard.

Be good if they could just make it on their own tbh, and with better hardware like the XR series has in the future. Thats how Netduma will make it big by not joining up with third parties and doing all the heavy lifting themselves.

But if they're gonna start EOL'ing the XR series... they're not gonna just dump DumaOS altogether so they gotta start putting it on something.

Maybe the RAX80 as thats buggy or maybe the RAX20 as thats much cheaper.
